Career Advancement: Police Recruits who successfully complete a California POST-certified Police Basic Training Academy and satisfy all departmental requirements will be promoted to the classification of Police Officer and become members of the Chino Police Officers Association (CPOA). Upon promotion, they will serve a probationary period and be granted full peace officer authority.

For more information, please click on the image below:Duties/ResponsibilitiesUnder the direct supervision and guidance of a designated training officer, Police Recruits develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Police Officer.
Police Recruits are required to attend a California POST-certified Police Basic Training Academy, where they receive comprehensive training in criminal law, law enforcement procedures, defensive tactics, firearms, first aid, physical fitness, and other essential law enforcement topics. Recruits also participate in departmental orientation and training.
Please Note: Employment as a Police Recruit is contingent upon successfully completing the Police Academy. Recruits who do not successfully complete the academy will be separated from employment and may apply for future consideration if eligible.
Essential Functions:- Observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents, and places.
- Use and care for firearms.
- Think and act quickly in emergencies, and judge situations and people accurately.
- Learn, understand, and interpret laws and regulations and department policies.
- Prepare accurate and grammatically correct written reports.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job duties of the position is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D (required); and supplemental Police Science courses (preferred).
Licenses/Certifications: Possess a valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
Experience: This is an entry level position; no prior law enforcement work experience is required.
Knowledge of:Ability to: - Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Meet standards of physical stature, endurance, and agility established by the City.
- Learn standard broadcasting procedures of a Police radio system.
Special Requirements - Age Requirement: Pursuant to California Government Code section 1031.4, applicants must be at least 20½ yearsof age at the time of application and 21 years of age by the time they are appointed as a sworn Police Officer.
- Written Examination: Applicants must successfully pass with a total T-Score of 45.0 or higher the Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB), a written examination developed by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). The exam is designed for entry-level peace officer candidates and does not require prior law enforcement experience. Applicants are strongly encouraged to review the POST PELLETB Applicant Preparation Guide and Sample Test before taking the examination.
Resources:Physical Demands and Working Conditions:- Heavy Lifting: Lifting over 50 lbs., with frequent lifting, pushing, and/or carrying of objects weighing over 25 lbs.
- Agility: Ability to move quickly and easily, often including the ability to crawl, stoop or bend.
- Color Vision: Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
- Distant Vision (Excellent): Without correction, vision not less than 20/40 in each eye, which must correct to 20/20 in one eye and not less than 20/25 in the other eye.
- Work Environment - Outdoors: Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
Employee Unit:Teamsters. Upon promotion to a Sworn Police Officer, the employee unit changes to the Chino Police Officers Association (CPOA).

The Police Recruit Written Exam may be waived if you have a valid California POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) score with a Total T-Score of 45.0 or higher earned within the past 12 months. Please select one of the following:
- No - I do not have a qualifying POST PELLETB score and understand I will be required to take the City's written examination.
- Yes - I have a valid POST PELLETB Total T-Score of 45.0 or higher earned within the past 12 months, and I have attached my results.
- I recently took the POST PELLETB with another agency and am currently awaiting my results. If my qualifying score is received before the City's written examination, I understand I must submit my results to Human Resources to be considered for a written exam waiver.
