General Description

Under general direction, to perform police duties, such as; foot patrol, motorized patrol within the City of Casselberry; to prevent crime; to detect and arrest the perpetrators of crimes; to regulate traffic; to provide public assistance; to perform all additional functions for the rank as prescribed by relevant laws, city ordinances, departmental rules and regulations, orders and directives of the Police Department; to perform special duties and/or assignments as directed by the Chief of Police in his discretion; to enforce the laws of the State of Florida and the ordinances of the City of Casselberry.

- Patrols assigned zone in a police vehicle.

Typical Qualifications
  • Be at least 19 years of age for law enforcement and correctional probation.
  • Be at least 18 years of age for corrections.
  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Have earned a high school graduate or equivalent (GED).
  • Have not been convicted of any felony or of any misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement.
  • Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to, or is found guilty of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, not-withstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication.
  • Have never received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United State.
  • Have good moral character.
  • Have successfully completed the Florida Basic Recruit Training Program for the respective discipline or completed the process.

APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY:
THIS IS NOT A SPONSORED/PAID POLICE ACADEMY POSITION. In order to be considered for this position, the applicant must have successfully complete a Florida Law Enforcement Officer Academy, be CURRENTLY attending a Florida Law Enforcement Officer Academy or CURRENTLY attending a Florida Cross-Over Law Enforcement Academy and is in good standing or has had their out-of-state Law Enforcement certification transferred over to a Florida Law Enforcement certification.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
- Applicants MUST complete the On-line Application and the Supplement Questions. If you do not have access to a computer with Internet, there is one available at your local library.
- The Recruitment Section will review your On-line Application and the Supplemental Questions. If you do not meet the minimum standards, you will be notified. If you do meet the minimum standards, you will be notified and an Application Packet will be E-mailed to you.
- The Application Packet must be completed either in Adobe and printed or printed and typed. Handwritten documents WILL NOT be accepted. The Application Packet must be complete with all required documents attached, signed, notarized (where applicable) and returned to the Casselberry Police Department by the designated date.
- The Recruitment Section will review your Application Packet. If you do not meet the minimum standards, you will be notified. If you do meet the minimum standards, you will be notified and invited to participate in the oral board interview, submit a writing sample, and take the Physical Abilities Test.
- The oral board interview and writing sample will be conducted in the Casselberry Police Department multi-purpose room at a predetermined date. Applicants that successfully pass the oral board interview and writing sample will be permitted to complete the PAT (Physical Abilities Test).
- The PAT will follow the oral board interview and writing sample. The PAT will be at Secret Lake Park (Maps and directions will be provided). Applicants will be notified immediately of their test time. (The parameters of the PAT are available from the Casselberry Police Department)
- The Recruitment Section will compile all applicants' files and select the applicants that are going to be sent for a background review, held for further consideration or removed from the process. All applicants will be notified of their status.
- The background process will be handled by the Support Services Corporal and the Casselberry Investigations Section. This process will include, but is not limited to a voice stress examination; a fingerprint comparison; a neighborhood check and a review of the history concerning your employment, driving, credit, criminal history and drug usage. Dates and times associated with this process is at the discretion of the background investigators. Applicants with acceptable backgrounds will advance to the Chief's Interview.
- The Chief's Interview will be conducted at the discretion of the Chief of Police. The Chief's Administrative Services Coordinator will contact the applicant to schedule the interview. The Chief of Police will select applicants that are going to be recommended for Conditional Employment Offers, held for further consideration or removed from the process. All applicants will be notified of their status by E-mail or phone call.
- Applicants that are given a Conditional Employment Offer will be advanced to the final step.
- The final step consists of a medical physical, drug screen and physiological review of the applicant. Applicants that fail any part of this step will be removed from employment consideration. Applicants that pass all parts of this step will be authorized for a full-time position with the Casselberry Police Department. The Support Services Sergeant will coordinate the starting date with the new officer and the City of Casselberry Human Resources department.

Salary

Base Pay......................$64,890*

* Plus additional salary incentives up to $130/month and 2% night shift differential, if applicable. Supplementary 2% for City residents.

* For experienced officers, starting pay is up to $78,750 a year & the City of Casselberry offers up to a $20,000 starting bonus

* New officers in the State of Florida are eligible for a $5000 starting bonus

*** New Officers are eligible for reimbursement of police academy expenses up to $3,600.00 ***

*** If you live a hundred or more miles from the City of Casselberry, we will pay you $2,500 to help you relocate!***

Take-Home Vehicle Program: Members are provided a take-home vehicle upon completion of the Field Training Program.

Healthcare Insurance: The City covers a significant portion of the employee's health insurance premium. Available options include a Copay plan or a HRA plan. Dependent coverage is also available for an additional cost. Employees may qualify for health insurance discounts based on wellness participation, non-tobacco use, and biometric screenings.

Dental & Vision Insurance: Optional dental insurance (DHMO or PPO) and vision insurance for employees and their families.

Supplemental Benefits: Short term disability "STD", Voluntary and AD&D Life Insurance, Legal Shield, Accident Insurance and Critical Illness with Cancer Insurance.

Long Term Disability: City paid long term disability after one year of employment.

Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D): City paid 1x base salary (maximum of $200,000)

Defined Benefits Pension Plan: The employee contributes 3% of salary and is vested after 8 years. Retirement plan accrues at 3% per year.

College Tuition Reimbursement: The City will reimburse college tuition and expenses up to $2,400 per year after one year of employment.

Equipment: All Officers are provided take-home vehicle, uniforms, weapons, vest, and other necessary equipment during their entire career.

Leave

Annual leave: Employees accrue at 6.66 hours of annual leave per month during the first year of employment. After the first year, the accrual rate increases to 8 hours per month.

Sick leave: Employees accrue at 6 hours of sick leave per month.

Additional Benefits: Employees are entitled to 10 paid holidays each year, as well as paid bereavement and military leave.
