Position descriptionThe UCLA Division of Plastic Surgery, Department of Surgery, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is seeking a full-time, academic faculty member at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank to join our growing Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series. The ideal candidate will be a fellowship-trained craniofacial surgeon with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, resident education, and clinical or translational research.
This role focuses on a comprehensive spectrum of complex facial surgery, spanning pediatric and adult craniofacial care, acute and secondary cranio-maxillofacial trauma, and a dedicated, multidisciplinary program for transgender facial feminization surgery (FFS) and gender-affirming facial procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Care: Deliver outstanding, patient- and family-centered surgical care across the full scope of sub-specialized craniofacial surgery. This includes, but is not limited to, managing complex adult and pediatric congenital anomalies (cleft lip/palate, craniosynostosis), pediatric plastic surgery (vascular anomalies, myelomeningoceles, skin lesions), acquired craniofacial defects (cranioplasty and soft tissue reconstruction), craniomaxillofacial trauma, and facial feminization surgery.
- Program Development: Serve as a core surgeon and collaborative leader in building the Adult and Pediatric Craniofacial surgical services as well as pediatric plastic surgery across all UCLA Health locations including Westwood, Santa Monica, and West Valley, with the option of being involved and expanding the Facial Gender Affirmation Surgery program.
- Teaching & Education: Actively participate in the education, training, and mentorship of integrated plastic surgery residents, craniofacial fellows, and medical students including weekly attendance at divisional conferences and resident didactic curricula.
- Research & Scholarship: Engage in scholarly activity, outcomes-based clinical research, or translational science to advance the field of craniofacial and gender-affirming surgery.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated clinical expertise and dedicated training in adult and pediatric craniofacial surgery, maxillofacial trauma management, and facial gender-affirming surgery, as well as a strong record of collegiality, multidisciplinary collaboration, and academic productivity. This position offers clinical, teaching, and scholarly opportunities within a leading academic medical center. The appointee will be expected to participate in the clinical care of patients requiring craniofacial and reconstructive surgical services, contribute to the education and supervision of trainees and students, and engage in scholarly and academic activities.
Candidates must possess an MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree and be eligible for an unrestricted California medical license. Applicants must have successfully completed an ACGME-accredited Plastic Surgery Residency program and an accredited or unaccredited Craniofacial Surgery Fellowship. Candidates must be board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). The salary will be commensurate with academic rank and experience.
The posted UC Salary Scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5, at Scale 7. The salary range for this position is $175,500 - $740,000. This position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan , which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
