Qualifications

  • Journeyperson certificate in Pipefitting or Welding required.
  • 5+ years of experience in spooling, pipe fabrication, or shop production.
  • Proven experience supervising a fabrication or spooling team.
  • Strong ability to interpret isometrics, P&IDs, GAs, redlines, and blueprints.
  • Background in oil and gas, compression/process package, or modular fabrication necessary.
  • Alberta B Pressure Welder certificate is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of shop safety, Alberta OHS, and welding procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily spooling operations and delegate tasks accordingly.
  • Review and understand technical drawings including isometrics and P&IDs.
  • Coordinate effectively with Production, QC, Safety, Shipping, and other shop supervisors.
  • Ensure all materials and equipment are prepared before work commences.
  • Monitor progress, proactively address shop issues, and communicate disruptions.
  • Enforce safety standards and assist with apprentice training.

Full Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Compression & Process is hiring a Pipe Spool Fabrication Shop Supervisor for our Shepard Shop at 9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB.

This role leads the spooling team in the shop, assigns work, keeps materials moving, and makes sure pipe spools are built safely, on time, and to the right quality standards. You'll be working 10 hour shifts each day, for 4 days in a week.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Lead daily spooling work and assign tasks.
  • Review isometrics, P&IDs, GAs, redlines, and fabrication drawings.
  • Coordinate with Production, QC, Safety, Shipping & Receiving, and shop supervisors.
  • Keep materials, drawings, and equipment ready before work starts.
  • Track progress, solve shop issues, and communicate schedule or material problems early.
  • Support safety requirements, shift handovers, and apprentice coaching.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Journeyperson certificate in Pipefitting, Welding.
  • 5+ years of spooling, pipe fabrication, or shop production experience required.
  • Experience supervising a spooling or fabrication team.
  • Strong ability to read isometrics, P&IDs, GAs, redlines, and blueprints.
  • Oil and gas, compression/process package, or modular fabrication experience required.
  • Alberta B Pressure Welder certificate preferred.
  • Good understanding of shop safety, Alberta OHS, welding procedures, quality checks, and production flow.
  • Clear communicator who can lead crews and solve problems in a busy shop.
