ResponsibilitiesJob SummaryEvaluates and treats patients with musculoskeletal injuries, conditions and disabilities through the use of various physical modalities, therapeutic exercises and therapeutic procedures in accordance with the physician's orders and department policies.
Essential Functions- Assesses, consults with physician, develops plan of care and goals with patient. Provides treatment based on physician's orders.
- Utilizes electronic health records efficiently and effectively to complete evaluations, daily notes and physician progress reports in a timely manner.
- Observes and reassesses the patient's condition and recommends appropriate changes to the plan of care.
- Instructs patients in home exercise programs.
- Operates within safety, infection and environmental control policies and procedures for physical therapy.
- Fits, instructs in use and dispenses assistive devices appropriately based on patient's needs to ensure safe ambulation and transfers.
- Fits and instructs patients in the use and care of durable medical equipment as prescribed by the physician, and accurately completes paperwork for billing.
- Provides coverage at other SBO locations as needed.
- Stays current in their respective field through reading professional literature and attending continuing education offerings, etc.
- Attends meetings and in-services as required.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Performs related work as required.
- Supervises and reviews physical therapy assistant treatments and documentation. Co-signs and submits fee slips accurately and in a timely manner.
Skills and Abilities- Ability to communicate clearly in person and on the phone.
- Ability to establish/maintain cooperative relationships with patients, customers, families, therapists, physicians, other team members in the company.
- Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Navigate and comprehension of computer software systems in an office setting, prefer 50wpm typing skill.
Physical/Mental Demands- Requires range motion within normal limits for spine and all extremities.
- Requires prolonged sitting, standing and walking, as well as frequent forward bending and kneeling. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform patient transfers safely.
- Requires the ability to perform a variety of therapeutic exercises, joint mobilizations and manual resistance for strength testing and training.
Environmental/Working Conditions- Combination of office and treatment areas.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to a clinic setting.
- Exposure to electrical equipment and cleaning solutions. Frequent contact with staff, patients and visitors.
- Work may be stressful at times. Interactions with others are constant and interruptive.
QualificationsEducation: B.S., M.S., or Ph.D in an accredited physical therapy program. Registered as a physical therapist and licensed in the state of Ohio.
Experience: Minimum of two years physical therapy experience preferred. New graduates are considered.
