Job Description:

The Physical Therapist is an independent licensed practitioner responsible for evaluating, treating, and rehabilitating neuromusculoskeletal conditions to maximize functional readiness and performance. The PT delivers direct access care, implements evidence-based interventions, advises leaders on injury mitigation and rehabilitation strategies, and contributes to integrated Human Performance efforts. This role supports personnel across training, recovery, and return-to-duty pathways, ensuring optimal musculoskeletal health and physical readiness.

HOW A PHYSICAL THERAPIST WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
  • Provides comprehensive evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of neuromusculoskeletal conditions.
  • Function as direct access care providers, evaluating and treating clients without referral.
  • Utilize proactive injury mitigation strategies, encompassing risk factor identification, targeted interventions, and the development of unit-specific programs.
  • All clinical practice is conducted within the defined scope of practice for Physical Therapy, adhering to state licensing board regulations and professional standards (e.g., APTA).
  • May refer clients to other POTFF staff members and medical providers as needed.
  • Actively participate in the development and implementation of programs designed to optimize physical readiness and minimize musculoskeletal injury.
  • Provide neuromusculoskeletal injury care, utilizing clinical privileges as documented and approved by their credentialing and privileging authority.
  • Provide post-operative evaluation and rehabilitative care; develop rehabilitative plans of care according to clinical practice guidelines and current evidence-based medicine
  • Provide proactive injury mitigation strategies, including risk identification and stratification, targeted interventions, and development of unit-specific programs.
  • As directed, provides direct clinical supervision the PT Tech, PT Assistant, within their scope of practice.
  • Participate in periodic meetings with POTFF and other staff for reasons such as, but not limited to, reviewing the care provided to clients. Identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Serve as an advisor to the unit POTFF or Physical domain Manager and/or Coordinator, Medical and/or Command Leadership in matters related to Sports Medicine (SM), injury mitigation, rehabilitation, and relevant human performance research.
  • Serve as an advisor to the unit POTFF, Medical and/or Command Leadership for administrative matters, purchasing supplies and equipment, and supplemental fiscal requests.
  • Participate in required medical and clinical quality management, quality assurance and client safety procedures.
  • Assists the POTFF, Medical and/or Command Leadership in developing and updating criteria-based job descriptions and performance standards.
  • Assist the POTFF or Physical domain Manager and/or Coordinator in developing and maintaining clinical practice guidelines to ensure consistency of care across all Human Performance Training Centers (HPTCs) and associated facilities.
  • Submits fiscal and resource input to the POTFF, Medical and/or Command leadership.
  • Develop and promulgate training materials as requested and required by the POTFF, Medical or Command leadership.
  • Participate in periodic in-service training for members of the Physical domain or POTFF staff, medical staff, as appropriate.


WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

EDUCATION: Master's degree (doctoral degree preferred) in physical therapy from a CAPTE accredited institution and certification through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) as either an Orthopedic Certified Specialist (OCS) or Sports Certified Specialist (SCS), or certification through the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) as an Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC) is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years or more of demonstrable accumulated experience as a Physical Therapist with individual athletes and groups of athletes at the levels of NCAA Collegiate Division I, Olympic, professional sports, USAF CRAFT, USAF SWTW and/or SOF Operators in the accompanying, respective settings.
  • Experience in the field of manual therapy, dry needling, and joint manipulation is strongly recommended.
  • Fellowship trained physical therapists, in Sports, Orthopedics and Manual Therapy, will also be considered, and do not need to meet the board certification requirement.


CLEARANCE: Secret or Top-Secret Clearance, or the ability to obtain clearance.

LOCATION: Various OCONUS & CONUS SITES

The likely salary range for this position is $111,155 - $150,385. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
