Job Summary

Evaluate and treat patients with diseases, injuries, disorders and disabilities; relieve pain, develop or restore function and maintain maximum performance. To coordinate the physical therapy care for all patients assigned to a team; and to train Physical Therapists in techniques related to the area of clinical specialty.

Responsibilities*
  • Coordinate the physical therapy care for all patients assigned to a team.
  • Interpret referrals and ensure necessary precautions are identified.
  • Develop focused individually designed treatment plans based on the patient?s functional goals.
  • Utilize independent clinical decision making to progress patients and modify treatment depending upon the patient?s need and medical status.
  • Monitor patients through the provision of treatment and respond appropriately to changes inpatient?s status.
  • Consult with, and serve as a resource to, other healthcare professionals regarding therapy administered and projected treatment goals.
  • Orient staff to policies, procedures and programs.
  • Initiate patient treatment when referral is made to the specialty area.
  • Assist staff with program planning, development and implementation.
  • Participate in developing rules and procedures for a team approach to therapy.
  • Represent the Physical Therapy Division at specialty conferences and medical rounds.
  • Supervise the maintenance and loan policies for departmental equipment.
  • Participate in clinical education for PT interns and classroom education for physical therapy students.
  • Present educational programs for other health professionals and community groups.
  • May conduct research in the field of physical therapy.
  • Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervision Received

General supervision is received from a Physical Therapy Supervisor.

Supervision Exercised

Functional supervision is exercised over Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy residents, students and support staff.

Required Qualifications*
  • If licensed prior to 2016: Bachelor?s degree in Physical Therapy or basic MS.
  • If licensed on or after 2016: Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy (DPT).
  • Completion of an accredited Physical Therapy Program and Clinical Internship.
  • Current licensure as a Physical Therapist in the State of Michigan.
  • Reasonable progressively responsible experience in physical therapy.
  • Some experience in teaching and continuing education in specialty area.
  • Some experience in coordinating the work of others.
  • This classification requires Primary Source Verification.

Physical Requirements

This position requires extensive standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Board Certified: ABPTRFE certification or re-certification in good standing (SCS or OCS).
  • General Experience: At least 5 years of clinical experience.
  • Michigan Medicine Experience: At least 3 years required in specific sports medicine/sports physical therapy service-line.
