Under general supervision, an employee in this class plans, organizes and directs the operation of the designated registered pharmacy. The work includes the training and supervision of a professional and technical pharmacy staff, development and administration of pharmacy procedures and supervision over the distribution of all drugs and medications to patients. The work is reviewed by an administrative supervisor through conferences, written reports and observation of the operations of the pharmacy.
Does related work as required and reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy.

KEY ELEMENTS OF THE ROLE:- Supervises, directs and controls the practice of pharmacy at the County Health facility, conducts orientation programs for professional and technical staff;
- Prepares and dispenses medically authorized prescription drugs;
- Reviews prescriptions for drugs as to appropriateness for dispensing to patients;
- May review medical and surgical equipment prescriptions;
- Maintains contact with pharmaceutical companies; pharmacists and health care institutions to maintain current information;
- Supervises purchasing procedures for all drugs and equipment used in the pharmacy;
- Interprets federal, state and local regulations regarding pharmaceutical services and drug distribution;
- Maintains all records relating to the purchase and distribution of controlled substances;
- Conducts and participates in in-service education with medical personnel;
- Serves as a consultant to the administrator, program director, physicians, dentists and other professionals on pharmaceutical matters;
- Maintains all records as mandated by federal, state, and local regulations and mandates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:OPEN COMPETITIVEGraduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy
ANDTwo (2) years of experience as a Licensed Pharmacist.
PROMOTIONALTwo (2) years of permanent competitive status as a Pharmacist I.
