Overview

Job Skills / Requirements

Responsible for preparing, dispensing, monitoring, and distribution of medications as ordered by the authorized practitioners. Responsible for supervision of other employees within the department in absence of the Clinic Pharmacy Director and Assistant Director.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities
• Accurately fill and verify prescriptions according to state and federal regulations.
• Provide clear and compassionate counseling to patients regarding medication usage, side effects, interactions, and storage.
• Monitor patient profiles for potential drug interactions, contraindications, and therapeutic duplications.
• Maintain appropriate documentation and comply with all legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements (e.g., Board of Pharmacy, DEA).
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care and medication management.
• Supervise pharmacy technicians and ensure all work is performed accurately and in compliance with policies.
• Participate in inventory management, including ordering, stock rotation, and control of expired or recalled products.
• Assist with insurance and third-party billing issues, including prior authorizations and patient assistance programs.
• Support quality improvement and medication safety initiatives.
• Provide immunizations and wellness services as permitted by state law and training.

Role Minimum Qualifications

Required Education
• Bachelor of Science or Doctoral in Pharmacy

Required Licensure and Certifications -At Hire
• Registered by Kentucky Board of Pharmacy

Required Licensure and Certifications -Post Hire
• BLS

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Must know all federal and state laws regarding pharmacy in Kentucky
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Knowledge of pharmacy software systems (e.g., QS/1, PioneerRx, Rx30)
• Strong knowledge of drug therapies, dosage calculations, and pharmaceutical regulations.
• Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Familiarity with third-party billing and insurance processing.

Preferred Education, Licensure and Certifications

  • Prior experience in a retail or outpatient pharmacy setting
