Full Job Description
Description

The Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences at Boston College invites applications for a distinguished senior scholar to serve as the inaugural holder of the Perry Pollack University Professorship.

This is an open-discipline search, seeking a scholar with expertise in economics, political science, history, or another discipline from across the liberal arts and sciences whose work and interests focus on the broad societal impact (locally, nationally, and globally) of technological advancements (such as artificial intelligence and humanoid robotics) and/or financial markets and systems. A University Professorship is the highest distinction for a faculty member at Boston College. Applicants should be established scholars in their field, with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and to scholarship and teaching that strive to transcend disciplinary boundaries and integrate diverse areas of scholarly expertise. The appointment will be a tenured position at the rank of full Professor, and we hope that the inaugural holder of the chair will be able to begin in July 2027, with teaching duties beginning mid-August 2027.

The expected 9-month base salary range (paid over 12 months) for this position is $275,000-$350,000. The actual salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, candidate qualifications and prior experience, scope of responsibilities, internal equity, and market considerations.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D., with a distinguished record of publications and teaching experience commensurate with the rank of full Professor with tenure.

Application Instructions

Applications should be submitted electronically to Interfolio. Applicants must submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, a research statement, and a statement of teaching philosophy. Finalists will be asked to submit three letters of recommendation. Our review of applications will begin November 1, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled.
