Responsibilities

Full Job Description
Summary: Works as an effective member of the perfusion service and provides for the safe performance and/or management of all duties associated with the job and for the population served based on the scope of services provided by the department.

Responsibilities:

1. Extracorporeal circulation/cardiopulmonary support.

2. Counterpulsation, circulatory support/ventricular assistance.

3. Blood Conservation techniques/autotransfusion.

4. Myocardial preservation. Anticoagulation and hematologic monitoring/analysis.

5. Physiologic monitoring/analysis. Blood gas and blood chemistry monitoring/analysis.

6. Induction of hypothermia/hyperthermia with reversal.

7. Hemodilution. Hemofiltration.

8. Administration of medications, blood components and anesthetic agents via the extracorporeal circuit.

9. Documentation associated with described duties.

10. Maintains presence at work and availability as required by the nature of duties of the position.

11. Properly maintains perfusion equipment to ensure patient safety and job safety. Assists with maintenance of supply and equipment inventories necessary for the proper operation of the perfusion service.

12. Provides assistance, training, and education in the care of surgical patients as required.

13. Maintain and Model REACH Values (Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, Honor).

14. Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.

15. Performs other duties as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from institution recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents of the New York Education Department.
  • Graduate of a Cardiovascular Perfusion program recognized and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Accreditation Committee for Perfusion Education (AC-PE).
  • Three (3) years of perfusion experience.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Experience with perfusion related databases, preferably NYS DOH.
  • Strong communication skills.

License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:

  • Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) as recognized by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
  • Licensed Perfusionist under Article 134 of the NYS Education Law.

Working Conditions:

Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity

Occupational: Some occupational risk

Physical Effort: Sedentary/light effort. May exert up to 10 lbs. force

Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
