Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition

Job Description

This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA)

The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenure-track appointment with the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, dependent on qualifications, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Location - This role is in-person work at North Campus Edmonton in association with the Stollery Children's Hospital.

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS), invites applications for an academic position within the Division of Gastroenterology and Nutrition in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. This position is a part of the Alberta Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP).

This full-time (1.0 FTE), tenure-track (contingent) position comprises approximately 50% time for clinical service and 50% time for academic pursuits, divided between research, teaching, and administrative duties (negotiable). The position would include after-hours on-call coverage shared amongst AMHSP division members.

Responsibilities
• Clinical: Provide excellent patient care for patients presenting to the Stollery Children's Hospital for gastroenterological care with a primary focus on general gastroenterology and luminal disorders. Demonstrate ongoing personal medical education to ensure care is provided according to the most up-to-date evidence and guidelines.
• Education and Mentorship: Teach and mentor learners at all levels in clinical and academic settings.
• Research Contribution: Advance the division's research portfolio in luminal disorders, including facilitating funding opportunities, promoting academic productivity, and supporting faculty in achieving high-impact publications. Successfully compete for research funding and maintain an active, independent research program that contributes to the division's academic strength.
• Collaboration and Engagement: Build partnerships within the university, healthcare system, and broader gastroenterology community to strengthen the division's academic and clinical impact.

Qualifications

Interested applicants must have:
• MD degree (or equivalent)
• Completed residency training in Pediatrics and subspecialty training in Pediatric Gastroenterology.
• Certified or eligible to become a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent.
• Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

Considered an asset:
• Additional training and/or specific interest in Pediatric GI motility and neurogastroenterology, and the ability to interpret motility tests (manometry, combined intraluminal impedance and pH studies) is highly desirable.
• Established or aspiring research experience in the field of eosinophilic disorders, disorders of gut brain interaction, neurogastroenterology and motility.
