Description & Requirements
The Payroll Systems Technical Lead serves as Payroll's primary technical resource for Workday Payroll functionality, reporting, testing, and process improvement. The role partners with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) to translate payroll requirements, validate system changes, investigate issues, and help the Payroll team use Workday effectively. This is a non-supervisory lead role.
What You Will Do:
Serve as the technical subject matter resource for Workday Payroll functionality and payroll business processes.
Translate payroll requirements into clear specifications in partnership with HRIS and validate completed changes.
Coordinate and perform payroll-focused testing for releases and system changes, including test scenarios, documented results, and risk communication.
Develop and support Workday reports, calculated fields, worksheets, and dashboards within approved access.
Investigate payroll issues, resolve items within Payroll's responsibility, and escalate system-related issues with clear documentation.
Represent Payroll on cross-functional system initiatives and communicate payroll impacts and operational considerations.
Create training, job aids, and functional documentation for new or changed functionality.
Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes through automation, artificial intelligence, reporting, and continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
5+ years of progressive U.S. payroll experience, including payroll processing, validation, tax compliance, adjustments, year-end processing, and periodic reporting.
Hands-on experience using Workday Payroll.
Experience conducting payroll testing, validating results, and documenting issues.
Experience building payroll reports and reconciling payroll data.
Experience investigating payroll system issues and documenting findings.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
In-house and medium-volume payroll experience
Experience with Workday reporting, calculated fields, or worksheets
Workday Pro certification in Payroll or Reporting, Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to handle confidential employee information appropriately.
