Position Summary
Mattson Technology, Inc. is seeking a Payroll & General Ledger Sr. Accountant to oversee U.S. payroll operations and key General Ledger activities. This position will oversee payroll for approximately 180 salaried and non-salaried employees while supporting journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end close, payroll accounting, and internal controls.
The role requires hands-on experience with ADP, Oracle, and SAP and will serve as a key interface between Payroll, HR, Finance, and Accounting.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll
• Full own the end-to-end U.S. payroll for approximately 180 employees, including regular, supplemental, bonus, and special payrolls.
• Review hours, earnings, deductions, benefits, taxes, PTO, and other payroll inputs.
• Perform pre- and post-payroll audits and resolve discrepancies.
• Coordinate with HR, Benefits, Finance, and Accounting to ensure accurate and timely payroll.
• Maintain payroll procedures, documentation, controls, and process improvements.
• Support federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance, including multi-state withholding, unemployment, W-2/W-2C, filings, and deposits.
General Ledger & Payroll Accounting
• Prepare and review journal entries related to payroll, benefits, accruals, prepaid expenses, taxes, and other accounts.
• Reconcile payroll registers, payroll liabilities, benefits, and payroll expenses to the General Ledger.
• Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate outstanding items.
• Analyze payroll and accounting variances and support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
• Maintain accurate documentation and provide support for internal and external audits.
Systems & Process Improvement
• Serve as a key business owner/SME for ADP, Oracle, and SAP, including payroll and accounting interfaces.
• Troubleshoot system and data issues with IT and external providers.
• Support system upgrades, implementations, testing, and process improvements.
• Identify opportunities to automate payroll, reconciliations, reporting, and accounting processes.
Supervision & Controls
• Supervise and provide direction to a payroll processor in Malaysia, including work priorities, deadlines, quality, and training.
• Maintain appropriate internal controls, segregation of duties, and audit-ready documentation.
• Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and internal control requirements.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting and payroll experience.
• Hands-on U.S. payroll experience supporting approximately 180+ employees.
• Strong General Ledger, account reconciliation, journal entry, and month-end close experience.
• Hands-on experience with ADP, Oracle, and SAP.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll requirements, including multi-state payroll.
• Strong Excel and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to manage deadlines, resolve issues, and maintain confidential employee information.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in semiconductor, technology, manufacturing, or multinational companies.
• SOX/internal control experience.
• Experience with ADP-to-Oracle payroll interfaces.
• Prior supervisory experience.
• U.S. GAAP and external audit experience.
• Experience improving or automating accounting and payroll processes.
