Job Summary:
HCA Healthcare Pathology Services and their West Florida Division is seeking a Pathology Medical Director to be based at HCA Florida Blake Hospital which is located in Bradenton, Florida about 45 miles south of Tampa in the Sarasota metropolitan area.

Qualified Candidates:
  • AP/CP certification is required
  • At least three years of hospital-based experience is preferred
  • Proficiency in general surgical pathology, clinical interpretations, and must have recent experience performing frozen sections
  • Subspecialty training or expertise in breast or lung pathology ideal but not required
  • The successful candidate must work cooperatively within diverse environments, have excellent interpersonal skills, and successfully establish and maintain positive relationships with hospital medical staff, technical staff and referring physicians
  • Active Florida Medical License and/or FCVS is a plus

Pathology Volume/Cases:
  • Volumes - approximately 3,100 surgical cases per year and 200 cytology cases per year, 9 to 10 procedures per week, and 15-20 peripheral smears per week
  • Procedures - Frozen sections for sentinel nodes, lungs, ortho PMN counts, skin, brain. ROSE for lungs
  • Blake has approximately 380 beds with a Level II Trauma Center and Burn Center. Anatomic pathology specimens include a wide variety of cases - breast, colorectal, thoracic, urologic and neurologic specimens.

  • Blake's extensive range of surgical services includes metabolic and bariatric, microvascular, open heart, neurological, colorectal, urologic, and general surgery.
  • Blake Medical Center's Graduate Medical Education program includes a Transitional Year program as well as an Internal Medicine Residency program and is affiliated with the USF Morsani College of Medicine.
