Overview

Werner Co. seeks an Operations Excellence Engineer at our manufacturing facility in Crystal Lake, Illinois in the Continuous Improvement Department responsible for leading transformative projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and reducing waste. 

Responsibilities

Specific duties include: 

(1) identifying and prioritizing strategic opportunities for improvement in existing manufacturing processes, focusing on substantial impact areas;

(2) developing and executing comprehensive plans to drive efficiency, reduce waste, and elevate overall operational performance;

(3) effectively coordinating meetings, delegating tasks, and communicating progress to the manager's team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals;

(4) utilizing advanced data analysis techniques to uncover intricate trends and patterns, providing nuanced insights for continuous improvement;

(5) creating sophisticated reports that convey findings and actionable recommendations to the team;

(6) instilling a culture of continuous improvement, promoting the use of data-driven decision-making and encouraging innovation, and introducing and championing innovative concepts and approaches to further optimize operational processes;

(7) conducting impactful workshops to engage personnel at all levels in problem-solving and idea generation;

(8) providing comprehensive training sessions to ensure all employees are well-informed about process changes;

(9) overseeing and managing a portfolio of improvement projects, ensuring they align with the organization's strategic objectives;

(10) playing a lead role as an internal auditor for ISO9001:2015, ensuring compliance and contributing to continuous improvement in quality management systems; and (11) supervising six direct reports including a CI coordinator and automation and manufacturing engineers. 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Mechatronics Engineering or Automation Engineering and seven years of senior-level experience with implementing automated process improvements in a manufacturing environment is required.  

 

Must have experience with:

(1) Toyota Production System (TPS) principles, including Lean Manufacturing;

(2) ISO9001:2015 audits; (3) costing and impact on production changes;

(4) DMAIC Methodology, including line balancing or work leveling;

(5) Advanced Knowledge Problem Solving (including 8D’s, 5 -Why, or Fishbone);

(6) FMEA Failure modes and effects analysis;

(7) poka-yoke error prevention processes; and

(8) ERP systems and how data is stored and used for manufacturing. 

 

Pay Transparency: In compliance with the Illinois Equal Pay Act, this posting includes the anticipated compensation and benefits for this role.  The expected pay for this position is $200,000 annually, which reflects the amount the company reasonably expects to offer.
