Position Summary:The Occupational Health Nurse-Disability Management Specialist's primary responsibility is the management of non-occupational and occupational illness and injury. They are responsible for the administration and management of the transitional work program to address the aforementioned conditions. In addition they oversee programs to address occupational hazards specific to the healthcare setting: biological hazards (e.g. COVID-19, tuberculosis, blood borne pathogens, influenza and other infectious agents); and physical, chemical and ergonomic/psycho-social hazards. The Occupational Health Nurse - Disability Management Specialist also provides First Aid, as well as immunizations, to employees as required. This position contributes to ensuing there is a safe environment for patients, employees, physicians, students, volunteers and visitors.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:- Current certificate of registration as a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, and/or a recognized qualification in Disability Management, with relevant experience in occupational health and disability management.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent, preferred.
- Occupational Health and/or Disability Management experience, preferably in a unionized healthcare setting.
- Canadian Occupational Health Nurses (COHN(C)) certification, or eligibility for certification, is an asset; equivalent qualifications or experience in Disability Management will also be considered.
- Proven experience managing all aspects of WSIB, short-term disability and long-term disability claims.
- Excellent working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Human Rights Code.
- Certificate or diploma in Disability Management (e.g., through the National Institute of Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR)) is an asset.
- Demonstrated strong computer skills, including experience using Parklane, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Demonstrated ability to perform venipuncture and immunizations
- Demonstrated expertise in Occupational Health and Safety, Wellness programs, WSIB claims management, Early and Safe Return to Work program and Attendance Management program
- Demonstrated excellence in decision making and critical thinking to perform detailed analysis, identify problems and recommend and implement solutions
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others
- Strong multi-tasking, organizational, time management and problem solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, including documentation and presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a self-directed manner as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
