Nurse Supervisor
About the Role:
The Nursing Supervisor oversees the medical assistant (MA) team within the psychiatric and substance use outpatient clinic and provides clinical supervision to residential nurses and MA(s), including those based out of CSID, Mental Health Urgent Care, Developmental Services and North End Ranch. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality support for psychiatric providers, compliance with clinical standards, coordination of care, and integration of medical services into the behavioral health setting. The supervisor will guide day-to-day clinical support operations, ensure regulatory adherence, provide staff supervision and training, and foster a safe, trauma-informed, and person-centered care environment. The supervisor is responsible for maintaining current policies and procedures related to nursing care, medication delegation, medical assistant duties, medication management, and other related clinical practices.
Principal Responsibilities:
Supervise and support medical assistants working in psychiatric, substance use, and dual-diagnosis outpatient programs.
Provide clinical supervision, consultation, and support to residential nurses and MA(s), including those based out of CSID, Mental Health Urgent Care, Developmental Services and North End Ranch. Guide nursing assessments, care planning, documentation, medication practices, and coordination of care in collaboration with program leadership.
Coordinate daily clinical operations, including appointment support, medication refills, provider workflow, vitals collection, injections, and lab coordination.
Promotes and supports primary care screenings.
Participate in quality improvement efforts related to clinical workflows, documentation, and safety protocols.
Collaborate with prescribers, therapists, case managers, and other staff to ensure continuity and coordination of care.
Develop and implement onboarding and ongoing training plans for medical assistants and nurses under clinical supervision.
Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and participate in progressive discipline as needed.
Act as Harm Reduction Supply Coordinator which includes training staff in the use of naloxone and other supplies.
Provide client health education related to substance use, harm reduction, dental health, and more, one on one and in a group setting.
Manage medical inventory, ordering supplies, and ensuring vaccine/medication storage standards are met.
Ensuring that Harm Reduction Supplies are given out and tracked.
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory standards (HIPAA, OSHA, CCBHC, etc.), including requirements affecting Vermont Therapeutic Community Residences (TCRs), Department of Mental Health (DMH), Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living (DAIL) Level III facilities, as applicable to each program.
Monitor medication administration logs, client education efforts, and documentation quality.
Respond to medical incidents or emergencies in collaboration with nursing and crisis teams.
Serve as a liaison between medical assistants, nurses under clinical supervision, program leadership, and agency leadership, facilitating communication and problem-solving.
Develop, review, update, and maintain policies and procedures related to nursing care, medication delegation, medical assistant duties, medication management, and other related clinical practices. Monitor changes in applicable regulations and standards, coordinate revisions with agency leadership, and ensure staff are trained in updated procedures.
Oversee nursing practices related to medication delegation, including staff training, competency assessment, ongoing monitoring, and re-delegation in accordance with agency policies and applicable requirements.
Support the integration of whole-person care, including coordination with primary care and wellness initiatives.
Qualifications and Competencies:
State of Vermont Registered Nurse license
Strong written and verbal communication skills along with organizational skills are required
Possesses knowledge of Dual Diagnosis (substance use and mental health) clinical issues
Minimum 3 years clinical nursing experience, 1-year experience with developmental services population preferred
At least one year of Supervisory/Leadership Experience preferred
Familiarity with regulations and standards affecting Vermont Therapeutic Community Residences (TCRs) and DAIL Level III facilities, including requirements related to nursing care, medication management, and medication delegation.
Must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation with personal automobile liability
insurance coverage at or above the levels mandated by the State of Vermont.
