How you make a differenceThe Nurse Practitioner provides on-site medical services by examining referred patients, conducting clinics, rounds, and responding to urgent and emergency situations. The role delivers ongoing medical care by diagnosing conditions, prescribing treatment plans, managing chronic care, and providing Medication Assisted Treatment services, including induction, follow-up, and medication management. The position documents care, orders and interprets labs, adheres to established policies and formularies, and supports continuity and standards of care within the facility.
Key Responsibilities- Examine patients, conduct sick call, chronic care clinics, and infirmary rounds, and respond to health emergencies.
- Diagnose conditions, prescribe and manage treatment plans, and provide ongoing medical and MAT-related care.
- Conduct MAT assessments, inductions, follow-up appointments, and manage medication continuation and titration.
- Order and interpret laboratory tests and drug screens and utilize appropriate in-house and referral resources.
- Document patient encounters, maintain confidentiality, and comply with established policies, procedures, and standards of care.

Candidates should be comfortable with substance withdrawal management, partnering with psych NP's and behavioral health staff, infectious disease management, MAT and standardized protocols (Title 15/NCCHC/ACA).
In addition, candidates should feel comfortable doing suturing, incision and draining (abscesses are extremely common), basic wound care and debridement, splinting/minor fracture management, EKG interpretation, and emergency response (codes and overdoses)
Qualifications & RequirementsEducation
- A graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Experience
- Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred.
- Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment.
- Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage.
Licenses/Certifications
- Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment.
- Must have and maintain current CPR certification.
