Position Overview

The provision of advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management for people receiving outpatient eating disorder services. The NP works as part of an interdisciplinary team to support individuals with eating disorders on an outpatient basis, with a strong focus on assessment, health promotion, and ongoing follow-up.

In addition, the NP collaborates with the outpatient mental health program in the development, implementation, and ongoing operation of a metabolic disorders clinic focused on the assessment and management of metabolic complications associated with psychiatric illness and psychotropic medications.

Position Responsibilities

  • The NP will provide screening, assessment and intervention to clients registered to the Regional Eating Disorders Program in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary healthcare team, community service providers and families. The successful candidate will be providing comprehensive patient centered care and hand over to appropriate level of care and/or primary care provider/pediatrician.
  • Provide skilled mental health nursing by establishing and maintaining a caring therapeutic relationship, which focuses on the needs of the patients.
  • Order, interpret, and monitor diagnostic tests including laboratory investigations, ECGs, and other relevant assessments.
  • Monitor medical stability and determine escalation of care requirements when clinically indicated.
  • Prescribe and manage medications within scope and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide education and psychoeducational support to patients, caregivers, and families.
  • Collaborate with the health care team to provide goal directed interventions and to reach identified client outcomes.
  • Assist in the development of clinical pathways, screening protocols, referral criteria, and monitoring processes related to metabolic health in psychiatric populations.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, outcome measurement, and evidence-informed practice development.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with individuals and community organizations that provide services to the client.
  • Demonstrates leadership, delegating tasks appropriately, acting as a role model, mentor and resource person.
  • Connect with and develop relationships with community and district stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with organizational and professional standards.


Position Requirements

  • Registered Nurse Extended Class License currently registered with the College of Nurses Ontario required.
  • Must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Must be eligible for membership with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current CPR/BLS.
  • Minimum 2 years recent experience working as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Must have the ability to perform independently, all skills published in the Standards of Nursing Practice, by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the learning ability to achieve and maintain organizational competencies.
  • Experience with data entry, Windows programs, and Meditech.
  • Must possess recent experience in working with clients with an eating disorder diagnosis or other mental health diagnoses.
  • Working knowledge of the signs and symptoms of addictions and mental health diagnoses, risk indicators, and the potential impact of addictions and mental illness on family members.
  • Knowledge of metabolic complications associated with psychiatric illness and psychotropic medications considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of eating disorder specific therapy modalities (i.e. FBT, CBT-E, CBT-T)
  • Working knowledge of developing rapport with clients who have poor distress tolerance and emotion regulation challenges.
  • Must possess the verbal ability to communicate with patients, physicians, program staff and other stakeholders in order to give and receive information or instructions and to write clear and accurate reports.
  • Must have the ability to function as a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
  • Graduate Certificate in Mental Health is a valuable asset.

  • Starting salary of $65.09/hour; $126,925.50/year (As per Step 1 of the ONA collective agreement.) ranges to 76.14/hour; $148,473.00/year (As per Step 9 of the ONA collective agreement.)
