The nurse practitioner in Pre-admission Screening independently develops a comprehensive data base on patient by obtaining a health history, completing a physical examination, ordering testing and consultation per guidelines, identifying problems and formulating an appropriate plan of care for the surgical patient. The nurse practitioner reviews diagnostic testing and formulates a plan for follow up of abnormal results. The nurse practitioner consults with the Medical Director and anesthesia in complex cases and communicates to the attending and primary care physician the plan of care being initiated. The nurse practitioner discusses issues potentially requiring changes in the surgical schedule with the High Risk Team. Patient and family education is provided in preparation for the surgical experience. The nurse practitioner works collaboratively with the health care team in Pre-admission Screening maintaining professional relationships. The nurse practitioner demonstrates the New England Baptist Hospital core values of respect, ownership, superior service and excellence.

Requirements:

Certification to practice as Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner.

Heartsaver Certification

Prefer 2 years of NP experience and 2 years of RN experience.

Critical care and experience with EKG interpretation is helpful.
