Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA)
Nocturnist | Full-Time | 12-Hour Shifts | Granite City, Illinois

Position Summary

Gateway Regional Medical Center is seeking a skilled and confident Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to serve as a Nocturnist on our inpatient medical team.

This role provides independent overnight inpatient coverage with physician support available by phone when needed. The ideal candidate is comfortable managing acute hospital patients, making timely clinical decisions, and coordinating care across disciplines to ensure safe and effective outcomes.

This position is best suited for an advanced practice provider with strong inpatient or critical care experience who is prepared to practice with a high level of autonomy.
Schedule
  • 12-hour night shifts
  • Approximately 15 shifts per month
  • Sunday-Saturday rotation
What You'll Do
  • Manage inpatient care from admission through discharge
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop treatment plans

Qualifications
Nurse Practitioner (NP)
  • Master's or Doctorate in Nursing from an accredited NP program
  • Current Illinois RN and NP licensure

  • Strongly preferred: acute care certification or hospitalist/critical care experience
  • DEA registration
  • Current ACLS and BLS certification
Physician Assistant (PA)
  • Master's degree from an accredited PA program
  • Completion of clinical rotations across multiple disciplines
  • Current Illinois PA license (new graduates welcome)
  • NCCPA certification
  • DEA registration
  • Current ACLS and BLS certification
Experience
  • Acute care or inpatient hospital experience required or strongly preferred depending on certification track
  • PA new graduates welcome; NP role requires strong acute care readiness or relevant hospitalist/critical care experience
