Job details: The NP/PA will provide consultative medical support to orthopedic and other surgical patients throughout the hospital. Responsibilities include performing initial consultation on high-risk post-operative patients in the orthopedic and spine services. Daily follow-up of these patients is required as determined by the patients' medical status. Hospitalist NPs and PAs are expected to work closely with the orthopedic/surgical teams to coordinate patient care. This includes daily rounding, full assessment of medical conditions, reviewing accuracy of medications, management or perioperative medical conditions, daily documentation, and coordination of discharge with case manager and attending physician. The hospital is staffed, 24 hours a day, by a hospitalist physician who provides assistance and clinical supervision. Communication with patients' PCPs is required when changes to patients' medication profile are instituted and to arrange for follow-up of any post-operative complication. New England Baptist Hospital is a center of excellence for orthopedic surgery, and a large number of the post-operative orthopedic population has multiple co-morbidities. Therefore, a thorough and detail-oriented approach to patient care is essential, and a strong acute-care medical background is required.
