This is a non-treatment, investigative evaluation role focused on obtaining comprehensive health histories, performing thorough physical examinations, reviewing cloud-based electronic health records (EHR), and delivering clear medical opinions to support VA benefit claims. If you are looking for a clinical role centered on thorough documentation, diagnostic evaluation, and service to former service members-without the burden of managing a treatment panel or ongoing patient care-this position offers an impactful opportunity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive Disability Evaluations: Conduct Disability Questionnaires (DBQs) and Separation Health Assessments (SHAs) for Veterans and active service members preparing to exit the military.
  • Medical Record Review: Review extensive medical histories, abstracts, and prior service records relevant to specific claim conditions.
  • Physical Examinations: Perform both focused and comprehensive physical exams based on claimed conditions.
  • Diagnostics & Ancillary Services: Order and interpret necessary laboratory tests, imaging, and other diagnostic procedures to support diagnostic decisions.
  • Medical Opinion Formulation: Provide clear, evidence-based medical opinion decisions and diagnostic findings on claimed service-connected health conditions.
  • Timely Portal Charting: Complete and submit detailed examination findings through an online cloud portal within 24 hours of the patient evaluation.

Candidate Qualifications & Skills
  • Licensure: Active, unrestricted state medical license as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) or Physician (MD/DO).
  • Clinical Expertise: Strong proficiency in performing detailed physical exams, interpreting diagnostic reports, and analyzing complex medical histories.
  • Documentation Skills: Exceptional written communication and chart completion habits, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Tech-Savvy: Comfort with navigating cloud-based EHR software and portal systems for timely chart submissions.
  • Patient Interaction: Strong interpersonal skills when interacting with Veterans and active military personnel in an evaluative setting.

Practice Details & Work Environment
  • Role Type: Evaluative & investigative charting (No direct treatment, prescribing, or ongoing case management).
  • Appointment Length: Examinations typically range from 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the complexity and number of DBQs required.
  • Daily Volume: Patient load ranges between 1 and 6 Veterans per day based on scheduled examination types.
  • Equipment: IT equipment is provided.
  • Dress Code: Professional clinical attire options include scrubs, traditional business attire, dress slacks, blouses/collared shirts, or professional dresses/skirts, accompanied by conservative closed-toe footwear.
