The City of Pasadena Public Health Department is seeking a Nurse Practitioner working within the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division to provide an enhanced clinician case management and outreach program to promote evidence-based management of tuberculosis by clinicians and other healthcare professionals in a patient's medical home. The Nurse Practitioner is expected to empower primary medical homes and manage care plans to provide evidence-based TB clinical care, develop evidence-based curricula and provide technical assistance to build local capacity to provide quality TB care in the primary care setting.
IDEAL CANDIDATEThe ideal candidate will possess strong clinical and organizational skills to effectively manage a grant-funded program and its requirements independently. A major component of a successful program implementation will require extensive knowledge and/or experience in public health services delivery and specifically tuberculosis testing and treatment. Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to collaborate and build partnerships with clients, grant funders, and healthcare partners is necessary for productivity and success.
Essential FunctionsUnder general supervision of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division Manager, the Nurse Practitioner will provide clinical guidance and public health services, including instruction and counseling, to clinicians, individuals and families in a variety of settings, as assigned. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will:
- Lead the development of clinical guidance and tuberculosis (TB) care best-practices, provide enhanced TB technical assistance to primary care clinicians, and develop clinical aids for patients' medical homes.
- Perform physical examinations, make diagnoses, prescribe treatments and procedures, initiate prescription drug therapy and manage acute, episodic, and chronic medical problems associated with the clinical care of tuberculosis patients.
- Use and interpret preventive health measures and early diagnostic techniques; orders, performs and interprets common screening laboratory procedures.
- Conduct community presentations, education and outreach on health services and clinical training for healthcare partners.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEAny combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance, such as:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing; and
- Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN); and
- Two years of experience as a licensed/certified Nurse Practitioner in an agency providing generalized nursing services
Desirable Qualifications- Two years of experience in tuberculosis clinical care in a public health setting.

VACANCY INFORMATION There is currently one full time, limited term/grant funded vacancy to June 30, 2028 in the Public Health Department, which may be filled as a result of this examination process. Current and future employment is dependent on available grant funding.
Special Requirements - Possession of a valid Registered Nurse License and a valid Nurse Practitioner Certification issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing is a conduction of employment and continued employment.
- Possession of a pharmaceutical furnishing number is required.
- Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are required at time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
