Job DescriptionThe Electrophysiology Nurse Navigator serves as a clinical coordinator and patient advocate within the EP clinic, bridging patients, the clinical team, and administrative staff. This role provides clinical oversight of referral intake, outside records review, schedule management, patient communication, and procedure preparation. Working in collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, patient service representatives (PSRs), and surgery schedulers, the EP Nurse Navigator promotes continuity of care, supports clinic efficiency, and helps ensure patients are appropriately prepared for their visits and procedures.
ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIESReferral Intake and Records Management- Review outside records for new and referred patients to assess clinical completeness and appropriateness
- Identify missing or incomplete information and coordinate with PSRs to request and obtain outside records
- Escalate urgent referrals to providers for timely review and scheduling
Schedule Review and Management- Review the daily clinic schedule in advance to ensure visits are clinically appropriate
- Identify scheduling concerns or outstanding items and communicate them to providers and clinic staff
- Collaborate with the clinic team to optimize scheduling and patient flow
Patient Communication and Triage- Respond to patient messages and telephone inquiries in a timely manner
- Triage patient concerns according to clinical urgency and escalate to providers as appropriate
- Provide patient education regarding EP conditions, procedures, and care plans within the RN scope of practice
Procedure Preparation and Readiness- Enter pre-procedure laboratory and diagnostic orders per provider direction and established protocols
- Review scheduled procedure patients in advance as an independent clinical check, in partnership with surgery schedulers, to confirm procedure readiness
- Follow up on outstanding results, documentation, or clinical concerns and communicate findings to the care team
- Support timely resolution of issues that may delay or impact scheduled procedures
Quality, Safety, and Collaboration- Collaborate with providers, PSRs, surgery schedulers, and clinic staff to support efficient clinic operations
- Participate in quality improvement and process improvement initiatives
- Adhere to institutional policies, documentation standards, and patient privacy regulations
- Promote a culture of patient safety within the EP team
QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's of Science, Nursing - minimum
- Master's Degree Master's of Science, Nursing - preferred
Experience
- 3 years Experience in an acute care setting (transplant, cancer, breast, emergency, pre-natal); preferred experience with program development and implementation of navigator programs. - minimum
Licenses and Certifications
- RN State License - Upon Hire minimum Registered Nurse
- ANCC Specialty Certification - 1 year to obtain from external hires
