Full Job Description
Job Summary:
-The Nurse Manager of Surgery has 24-hour responsibility for the direct and/or indirect care of the surgical patient.

Education:
Required:
-Graduate from an accredited School of nursing

Preferred:
-Bachelor's degree in nursing, Management, Business, or other related field.

Experience:
Required:
-Three (3) years clinical experience with evidence of leadership abilities

Preferred:
Previous Management experience

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required:
-Current licensure to practice Nursing in the State of Tennessee
-BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward
-Completion Specific Annual Required Education Related to DNV Advanced Certification

The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.

Department Position Summary:

The Nurse Manager of Surgery has responsibility for the daily clinical coordination of personnel and resource management in a fiscally responsible manner. They are also responsible for collaborating with the anesthesia staff & ancillary departments to effectively manage, facilitate, and complete surgical cases for elective, urgent, and emergent surgical procedures. This team member is accountability for quality patient care and the orientation, education, growth, and performance of those reporting to them.

The Nurse Manager of Surgery must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.

This individual also contributes to nursing and Erlanger Health System through support of the philosophy and objectives.

Clinical competency is evaluated annually using a variety of mechanisms including direct observation, in a skills lab, or discussed verbally or written. Competency can also be evaluated by a formal peer review process and/or by self-assessment based on objective criteria that is reviewed and validated. It focuses on the population-specific needs of the customers served by the staff member.
