Responsibilities

  • Coordinate usage of OR equipment and ensure necessary supplies are available.
  • Oversee daily operational needs and deployment of surgical staff as needed.
  • Develop training processes for both new equipment and staff orientation.
  • Lead Quality Assurance initiatives in alignment with accreditation standards.

RockyView Surgical Center a division of Clearpoint Health Network is recruiting for experienced Nurse Clinician / Charge Nurse with experience in Orthopedic surgery.

An exciting career opportunity awaits you at ourRockyView Surgical Center for an experienced Orthopedic Nurse Clinician. This role reports to the Nurse Manager. The Nurse Clinician is accountable for the overall leadership and management of the surgical operations using standard nursing processes in addition to critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teaches, counsels and advocates on behalf of patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct point person for physicians and nursing staff
  • Collaborates with all members of the health care team: Pre-Op, Peri-OP, PACU and MDR
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies, medication administration and storage procedures and controlled substances regulations
  • Assists with the orientation and support for new staff to the facility
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Providing relief in OR when necessary
  • Assist with the management of OR slates by coordinating equipment use, identifying special equipment needs and ensuring onsite availability of requested equipment. Liaison with Vendors for implants, disposables and equipment. Assist with procurement of goods.
  • Overseeing the daily operational needs of the OR's including deploying Pre-Op, OR and PACU staff as needed, identifying arising educational needs and targeting performance issues for follow up
  • Developing educational processes and in-servicing to orientate staff on the use of all new center equipment
  • Undertake Quality Assurance initiatives in partnership with the director of operations to be always accreditation ready, by following and adhering to College Standards


QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program combined with 5 years recent experience in an acute care operating room environment
  • Orthopedic experience preferred
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) perioperative nursing certification/Completion of a post-secondary educational institution perioperative nursing program/Equivalent in education and experience
  • Experience in Pre-Op, PACU, ICU an asset
  • Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized, rapid moving, complex environment.
  • Ability to collaborate within the expectations of a highly complex integrated team
  • Ability to wear lead apron protection for an extended period
  • The ability to cope and effectively perform in stressful and/or emergent situations is essential


Physical Requirements

  • The work environment is very physically demanding and may require different levels of physical exertion, such as lifting and transferring patients
  • May work in challenging and stressful circumstances, such as in an emergency
  • Possible exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, chemicals and other safety
    hazards
