Job Summary

Inpatient Oncology, Responding Clinician APP, Shifts are 13 hours (Day/Night rotation) with minimal night requirement

Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), located in Boston, MA currently has an opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our cutting-edge Inpatient Oncology team, caring for inpatients with solid tumors or hematologic malignancies.

Join a dynamic inpatient oncology team. Work within one of our two subspecialty groups with APPs that specialize in either 1) solid tumor, caring for an oncology patient population who are admitted for medical complications, new diagnoses, and treatment-related side effects, or 2) hematologic malignancies, caring for patients receiving bone marrow transplant and cellular therapies. This role offers the perfect blend of autonomy and collaboration. You’ll work closely with oncologists and an interdisciplinary team to deliver cutting-edge care on either our solid tumor or hematologic malignancy service. Our APPs have the opportunity to be on the forefront of cancer care, collaborating with research teams to care for patients receiving first-in-human therapies as well as standard of care.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide comprehensive care for oncology patients from admission to discharge in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary teams.
• Participate in daily interdisciplinary rounds and collaboratively develop and implement care plans.
• Coordinate tests, consultations, and communicate with referring clinicians and consult services.
• Perform patient education and prepare patients for discharge.
• Support research initiatives and care for patients receiving first-in-human therapies as well as standard of care.

Ideal Candidates will have:
• Minimum 2 years of prior experience in an acute care/inpatient environment (either as RN or APP), with medicine, ICU or oncology experience highly desirable, preferred
• Master’s degree in nursing, national certification in advanced practice nursing OR master’s degree in physician associate studies, with certification by NCCPA

Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed provider. The NP is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.

Essential Functions
-Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting
-Performs complete histories and physical examinations
-Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests
-Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings
-Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries
-Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population
-Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures

Experience
Experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant 0-1 year preferred

- Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
