Position SummaryReporting to the Senior Manager, Enterprise Risk, the North America Regulatory Consultant will be responsible for serving as a subject matter expert on U.S. and Canadian regulatory frameworks impacting banks, fintechs, payments companies, lenders, crypto businesses, gaming platforms, marketplaces, and other regulated industries. This role involves providing deep expertise in Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Know Your Customer (KYC), Know Your Business (KYB), fraud, sanctions, beneficial ownership, and broader financial crimes compliance, while bridging regulatory expectations, compliance operations, and product development to ensure Trulioo continues to design and deliver industry-leading solutions.
This role is expected to thoughtfully leverage AI and emerging technologies to improve productivity, enhance decision-making, and continuously optimize how work is performed.
This is a full-time, permanent position based out of our Vancouver or San Diego office on a hybrid model (3 days per week in-office). Candidates located outside a commutable distance of this office may be considered for a fully remote arrangement within Canada or the United States.
What You'll Be Doing:- Serve as the subject matter expert on North American AML, BSA, KYC, KYB, sanctions, beneficial ownership, and related financial crimes regulations, maintaining deep knowledge of the strategies and activities of core enforcement agencies (CFTC, FFIEC, FinCEN, FINTRAC, OFAC, etc.). Monitor legislative, supervisory, and enforcement developments across federal and state agencies, determine their impact on Trulioo's products, customers, and operations, and support customer due diligence, audits, regulatory examinations, and strategic engagements.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, and AI teams through discovery, design, development, and UAT to ensure Trulioo's solutions align with regulatory expectations and operational best practices. Translate compliance workflows into product capabilities and provide regulatory guidance during commercialization and market expansion.
- Advise on onboarding, customer risk assessments, ongoing monitoring, transaction monitoring, investigations, SAR processes, enhanced due diligence, regulatory examinations, and compliance governance, identifying operational pain points and emerging trends and turning them into differentiated product capabilities.
- Produce routine regulatory briefings, market intelligence reports, and executive summaries, develop customer-facing content including whitepapers, blogs, webinars, and regulatory updates, and represent Trulioo at conferences, regulatory forums, customer events, and industry working groups.
- Support the continued development of Trulioo's Compliance Management System by building scalable governance processes and regulatory change management, partnering across Legal, Privacy, Risk, Information Security, and Product.
- Leverage AI and emerging technologies to improve productivity, streamline workflows, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement while ensuring the responsible, secure, and compliant use of AI tools.
- Develop and refine repeatable AI-assisted compliance workflows to improve turnaround time and quality, verifying outputs against primary sources and keeping confidential and customer data out of AI tools.
What You'll Bring:- Bachelor's degree in law, finance, compliance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8-12+ years of experience in AML, financial crimes compliance, related regulated industries (Payments, Banking, Digital Assets), or compliance consulting.
- Excellent communication skills, with experience influencing executives, product teams, customers, and regulators.
- Strong regulatory research and analytical skills, with the ability to foster a culture of compliance while enabling innovation.
- Strong expertise in BSA, FinCEN, OFAC, CIP/CDD/EDD, KYC/KYB, beneficial ownership, and PEP and sanctions screening.
- Deep understanding of compliance operations within banks, fintechs, payments, crypto, lending, or marketplace businesses.
- Awareness and understanding of related regulations for other non-financial, highly regulated industries such as healthcare and gaming.
- Experience researching regulations and translating them into practical operational and product guidance.
- Experience supporting regulatory examinations or remediation initiatives.
- Demonstrated working AI fluency, with hands-on use of generative AI and machine-learning tools, models, and agents in repeatable research, analysis, or writing workflows, and a deep understanding of AI's limitations and best practices for responsible use.
Nice to Have:- CAMS, CRCM, CFE, or similar certifications.
- Experience with a regulator, consulting firm, or RegTech company.
- Familiarity with CFPB, CFTC, FDIC, Federal Reserve, OCC, SEC, NCUA, or state banking regulators.
- Knowledge of digital identity, fraud prevention, AI governance, or privacy regulations.
- Experience speaking at industry conferences or publishing thought leadership.
