NEXCOM Computer-Aided Design Draftsperson

 

Location: Chicago, IL 

 

We are seeking a Computer-Aided Design Draftsperson (CAD) for our Next Generation Air/Ground Communications (NEXCOM) program to create and revise technical and architectural drawings that support the design and implementation of new Air-to-Ground radio equipment at more than a thousand FAA air traffic control centers across the United States. This role is responsible for creating, modifying, and maintaining engineering drawings using CAD software and manual drafting methods in accordance with applicable FAA orders and standards, providing design support for facility engineering documentation and as-built drawings. The candidate will ensure all drawings meet established technical, formatting, and documentation standards, including compliance with FAA Order 6000.55 and FAA-STD-002.

 

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail, advanced CAD proficiency, and familiarity with engineering and architectural documentation standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Provide drafting and design support for the development and update of facility as-built drawings.
  • Create, modify, and maintain technical drawings using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools and manual drafting methods as required.
  • Ensure all engineering drawings comply with FAA standards and documentation requirements, including FAA Order 6000.55 and FAA-STD-002.
  • Translate field survey data, engineering notes, and design specifications into accurate technical drawings and documentation.
  • Maintain drawing libraries and ensure version control and configuration management of engineering documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field personnel to incorporate design updates and revisions.
  • Review and verify drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Identify discrepancies or potential design issues and recommend corrections.
  • Support engineering teams during project design, installation planning, and documentation updates.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

 

  • 5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD; 7 years with an AS degree; 9 years in lieu of degree.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a public trust clearance.
  • Experience: Experience developing technical drawings using CAD tools in engineering, architecture, telecommunications, or infrastructure environments.
  • Strong proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD preferred)
  • Experience with 3D modeling and Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools
  • Ability to produce precise technical drawings and identify discrepancies or errors in engineering documentation.
  • Familiarity with engineering, architectural, or manufacturing terminology, symbols, and standards.

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience supporting FAA or other federal infrastructure programs.
  • Knowledge of facility engineering documentation and as-built drawing standards.
  • Professional certifications such as:
    • Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP)
    • Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA)
  • Experience working with engineering teams supporting telecommunications, facilities, or infrastructure deployments.

Target Salary Range$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
