Full Job Description
Summary:
The Neurodevelopmental Psychologist provides specialized psychological and neurodevelopmental assessment, diagnosis, consultation, and treatment planning for children and adolescents with suspected or diagnosed Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), intellectual and developmental disabilities, learning disorders, ADHD, behavioral health conditions, and other complex neurodevelopmental presentations. The Neurodevelopmental Psychologist serves as a key member of a multidisciplinary outpatient diagnostic and treatment team and provides clinical leadership in understanding the relationship among brain development, cognition, behavior, emotional functioning, adaptive functioning, communication, learning, and environmental demands. The psychologist works collaboratively with children, parents and caregivers, foster and adoptive families, schools, Tribal health programs, medical providers, behavioral health professionals, rehabilitation specialists, and community partners to translate assessment findings into practical recommendations.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Conduct clinical and developmental interviews with children and caregivers.
  • Obtain comprehensive developmental, medical, behavioral, educational, social, and family histories.
  • Review prenatal and birth histories, including documented prenatal alcohol and other substance exposures when available.
  • Review previous medical, psychological, psychiatric, educational, speech-language, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and developmental evaluations.
  • Select and administer standardized psychological and neurodevelopmental assessment instruments.
  • Interpret assessment results in the context of the child's developmental history, cultural background, environment, and daily functioning.
  • Identify strengths as well as areas of impairment.
  • Prepare integrated psychological evaluation reports.
  • Evaluate neurobehavioral functioning across clinically relevant domains
  • Collaborate with medical and other multidisciplinary providers to integrate neurobehavioral findings with prenatal exposure history, physical and medical findings, developmental history, and functional impairment.
  • Assist families and providers in understanding how brain-based differences associated with FASD may affect behavior, learning, memory, judgment, emotional regulation, communication, and independent functioning.
  • Conduct or participate in comprehensive autism evaluations using evidence-based clinical practices and standardized assessment methods.
  • Integrate assessment findings with information from speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, pediatrics, psychiatry, behavioral health, and other disciplines.
  • Evaluate whether presenting behavioral difficulties are better explained by neurodevelopmental impairment, behavioral health conditions, trauma, environmental factors, or a combination of factors.
  • Use assessment findings to identify functional strengths and limitations and develop recommendations for home, school, treatment, and community environments.
  • Assess emotional and behavioral functioning.
  • Provide diagnostic feedback and recommendations to families.
  • Provide specialized psychological assessment as part of the multidisciplinary evaluation of children with known or suspected prenatal alcohol exposure.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, organizational policy, professional standards, and applicable state and federal requirements.
  • Contribute clinical findings to multidisciplinary diagnostic evaluations.
  • Serve as a core clinical member of the FASD and Autism multidisciplinary assessment team.
  • Develop recommendations that emphasize appropriate environmental accommodations, skill building, caregiver support, and treatment rather than relying exclusively on behavioral consequences.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences to review findings, establish or clarify diagnoses, identify strengths and functional needs, and develop integrated recommendations.
  • Provide comprehensive feedback to parents, caregivers, foster parents, and adoptive families following evaluation.
  • Work with the Child and Family Care Coordinator to ensure recommendations are translated into actionable referrals and services.
  • Provide consultation and education to families regarding the child's neurodevelopmental functioning.
  • Develop recommendations that support placement stability, caregiver understanding, treatment continuity, educational success, and long-term developmental functioning.
  • Support expansion of specialized neurodevelopmental services to rural and communities.
  • Track referrals and follow-up recommendations to reduce gaps in services.
  • Provide ongoing contact with families to identify barriers to treatment participation.
  • Support program data collection and quality-improvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Education Requirements:
  • Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, or another appropriately accredited psychology program with training relevant to child development, psychological assessment, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • Current license as a psychologist or eligibility for psychologist licensure in the state where services are provided.
  • Must meet organizational credentialing and privileging requirements.
  • Must maintain continuing education and professional competencies required for assigned clinical responsibilities.
  • No DWI or other major alcohol or other drug violations within the last 36 months.

Hours of Work:
The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with one hour for lunch. Chugachmiut maintains a drug/alcohol and non-smoking work environment. Possible nights and weekends as needed. Travel to remote locations by boat, snowmobile, ATV, or small plane is required, and employees must be willing and able to travel.
