Title:Network Engineer
KBR's National Security Solutions team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to our customers in the intelligence and national security communities.
We are seeking a
Network Engineer to design, implement, maintain, and support our organization's network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, security, and efficient operation of wired and wireless network systems while supporting business objectives and end-user requirements.
Key Responsibilities:- Review and analyze the existing network architecture and provide designs of current/modern WAN/MAN/LAN technologies
- Lead the design, implementation, and sustainment of secure, scalable network architectures supporting DoW software applications across development, test, and production environments (e.g., NIPRNet, SIPRNet, JWIC, SAP/SAR and cloud based - platforms).
- Recommend best practices such as SDN, Intent-based networking, and network segmentation protocols, etc., to improve the existing architecture and meet new networking requirements
- Work closely with stakeholders and DoW engineers to design telecommunications circuit specifications
- Collaborate closely with software development, cybersecurity, cloud, and operations teams to integrate networking solutions seamlessly into the application lifecycle, from design through deployment and sustainment.
- Serve as the primary technical interface for network-related discussions with government stakeholders, program leadership, and external partners, providing clear communication of risks, tradeoffs, and mitigation strategies.
- Guide the implementation of monitoring, logging, and incident response capabilities for network infrastructure to support operational visibility, cybersecurity detection, and rapid troubleshooting.
- Develop and enforce network standards, configuration baselines, and best practices aligned with DoW Instructions, enterprise architecture, and programspecific- requirements.
- Develop and maintain network architecture specifications and artifacts
- Designs and plans network communications systems.
- Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
- Conducts cost/benefit analysis and provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.
- Conducts testing of network design.
- Responsible for monitoring network hardware operations to ensure properly set configuration options.
- Works with stakeholders and product team to plan implementation of enhancements and upgrades to the network.
- Advises network users of hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations.
- Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
- Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.
QualificationsRequired:- Clearance: Top Secret with SCI eligibility
- Ability to obtain and maintain a JWIC, SAP/SAR clearance
- Requires 7-9 years of experience with BS/BA
- Minimum 3 years of Cisco experience; proven expertise with Cisco network hardware including: routers, switches, firewalls, unified communications equipment
- Proven experience in VMware environments
- Proven experience in virtual and physical Internet Protocol and Fiber Channel networks and routing protocols
- Proven experience designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting LAN, WAN and low bandwidth networks protected by network encryptors
- Proficiency in Automation Tools (e.g., Ansible, Python, or similar)
- Expertise in Software-Defined Networking (SDN)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Experience with Change Management Processes to ensure smooth network updates and configurations
- Knowledge of DISN (Department of Defense Information Network), SPARTAN or CANES (Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services) systems
- Information Assurance Certifications consistent with the 8570 IAT Level III (CISSP, CASP+ CE, CCNP Security, CISA, GCED, and GCIH)
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Experience with ATO process and procedures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate risk posture, trends, and recommendations to diverse audiences.
- Working knowledge of Agile, Agile XP, DevOps, and DevSecOps methodologies
- Experience working with version control systems like Gitlab, Jira and Confluence
Desired: - Professional certification in Cisco, VMware, and/or ITIL
- SPARTAN Networking experience
Basic Compensation: $123,600 - $190,800 (For Colorado Springs, CO Only)The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
Additional Compensation: KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of a sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
