Position Description: CGI is hiring a Network Engineer to support a leading US fiber broadband provider that builds and operates fiber networks delivering internet service to homes and businesses. You will work between network design, field engineering and the vendors who turn up circuits, making sure what gets built in the field matches what was designed.
The role is Layer 1 heavy. Most of your day goes to fiber path design, rack terminations and circuit requests. When a circuit does not come up, you will have the OSI knowledge to trace the fault from A End to Z End and get it resolved.
This role can be based remotely anywhere in the United States. Volume peaks at month end, and the team adjusts hours to hit those deadlines.
Your future duties and responsibilities
. Design and validate Layer 1 fiber paths end to end, including splice points, patch panels and cross connects.
. Read and interpret grid based rack termination schematics to confirm port assignments and physical path accuracy.
. Prepare and modify working circuit request templates for vendors so orders go out complete and correct the first time.
. Check field engineering documents against design budget guidelines and flag discrepancies before construction or turn up.
. Troubleshoot circuit issues across the OSI model from A End to Z End, working with field technicians, operations and vendors to isolate and fix faults.
. Log and track requests, changes and incidents in ServiceNow or the client's ticketing platform.
. Keep design records and path documentation current and accurate.
. Support end of month delivery peaks, including extended or shifted working hours when volume requires.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
Must have
. 3+ years in network engineering, fiber or outside plant engineering, or telecom provisioning.
. Strong understanding of Layer 1 fiber path design.
. Ability to read and interpret grid based rack termination schematics.
. Ability to understand and modify working circuit request templates used to communicate with vendors.
. Ability to comprehend design budget guidelines and validate field engineering documents.
. Working knowledge of OSI A End to Z End troubleshooting.
. Flexibility on working hours and commitment to high volume end of month workloads.
. Based in the United States.
Nice to have
. ServiceNow experience.
. Hands on familiarity with fiber test equipment such as OTDRs and optical power meters.
. Exposure to FTTH/FTTP architectures, including PON technologies.
. Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications or a related field, or equivalent experience.
