ABOUT THE TEAMThe Air Dominance and Strike MRB Mechanical Engineering Team supports the production, sustainment, and airworthiness of Group 5 air vehicles and missile platforms. The team is focused on keeping fielded and in-production systems flying - evaluating nonconforming hardware, driving Material Review Board (MRB) dispositions, resolving production issues, and ensuring mechanical subsystems meet performance and safety requirements throughout their operational lifecycle. The team works at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, and quality to maintain the pace of production without compromising airworthiness.
WHAT YOU'LL DO- Coordinate with the manufacturing and engineering teams for all of Mechanical Subsystems, including: propulsion, hydraulic systems, fuel systems, landing gear, and systems integration
- Evaluate nonconforming mechanical hardware and components on fielded and in-production Group 5 air vehicles, and determine engineering dispositions that restore airworthiness and function
- Generate clear, traceable MRB dispositions - including rework instructions and repair solutions - for mechanical subsystems, actuation, and structural-mechanical interfaces
- Review and interpret CAD models, 2D drawings, GD&T, and tolerance stack-ups to assess fit, function, and manufacturability impacts of non-conformances
- Identify acceptable alternate components for obsolete parts
- Perform structural and mechanical analysis (stress, deflection, fatigue) using hand calculations and FEA tools to substantiate dispositions and repairs
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action efforts for recurring non-conformances and production escapes on mechanical hardware
- Partner daily with Manufacturing, Quality, Design Engineering, and Supply Chain to resolve build issues and keep production flowing without compromising safety or performance
- Build prototypes and test fixtures in the field or on the production floor; analyze failures and feed learnings back into design
- Travel to vendor, production, and test sites as needed to support hardware builds and troubleshoot issues directly
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers on MRB discipline, mechanical fundamentals, and cross-functional coordination
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including direct experience evaluating nonconformances and dispositioning hardware in a production, depot, or maintenance environment
- Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (CATIA, Siemens NX, Creo, or SolidWorks) and strong command of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis
- Ability to perform structural and mechanical analysis (stress, deflection, fatigue) using hand calculations and FEA tools (ANSYS, NASTRAN, or equivalent)
- Understanding of manufacturing methods relevant to mechanical hardware (machining, sheet metal, fasteners, actuation, 3D printing)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills - able to produce clear, technically sound disposition and repair documentation under schedule pressure
- Self-driven with strong autonomy and adaptability in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Direct MRB signature/delegated authority on a production aerospace program
- Experience with Siemens NX/Teamcenter or other PLM systems
- Experience integrating electrical and mechanical subsystems into advanced air vehicles
- Familiarity with military airworthiness and certification processes (Military Commercial Derivative Aircraft certification, FAA STC, Military Airworthiness Certification)
- Experience with FMEA and other risk assessment methodologies
- Hands-on experience in an aircraft manufacturing, depot repair, or sustainment environment
- Broad experience across a range of aircraft or missile programs
