The Department of Radiation Oncology at New York University Langone Health is recruiting an accomplished medical physicist to serve as Physics Director for MR-guided Radiotherapy (MRgRT). This is an outstanding opportunity for a collaborative, forward-looking leader to help shape the next phase of a busy and innovative MRgRT program within a premier academic health system. The successful candidate will work closely with physician and physics leadership to define the strategic vision for, and guide the continued growth of, the clinical physics, operational, and research missions of the MR-Linac (MRL) program and MRgRT more broadly. A major priority for this role will be partnering with physician colleagues to streamline workflows, expand disease-site applications, and drive innovation in the clinical use of MRgRT.
The MRgRT physics director will participate in a mix of clinical, academic, and administrative effort. Clinical services include participation in our comprehensive physics quality assurance program and support for MRL treatments, QA, and upgrades. Administrative effort includes development and revision of policies and procedures, collaboration on operational and developmental efforts related to MRgRT with radiation oncology leadership, IT, and vendor partners, and ensuring staff coverage and expertise within the MRgRT space. The role includes teaching in our medical physics and radiation oncology residency programs and opportunities for academic contribution through program development, research collaboration, and innovation in MRgRT.
There is an expectation that this leadership position is on-site daily and the successful candidate will join a highly collaborative, multisite department with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and education. The position is primarily located at the NYU Langone Hospital and Perlmutter Cancer Center buildings in Manhattan, working together with a team of 21 faculty and staff physicists, 20 radiation oncology physicians, and 16 dosimetrists. The Manhattan facilities together house 5 TrueBeam linacs, 1 Elekta MR linac, 1 GammaKnife, 1 MR simulator, 2 CT simulators, and an active brachytherapy program. Coordination with, and occasional travel to, our practices in Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Long Island is necessary.
Qualifications
Requirements include at least 5 years of post-residency radiotherapy physics experience, including clinical experience working in MRgRT applications such as MRL and MR-simulation; Ph.D. in Physics, Medical Physics, or related field; and certification in therapeutic medical physics by the American Board of Radiology, or equivalent. Evidence of clinical competence and didactic teaching is expected. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a track record of effective multidisciplinary collaboration, operational leadership, and interest in advancing new clinical applications of MRgRT. The academic rank of the selected candidate within the NYU Grossman School of Medicine will depend upon the candidate's qualifications.
