Full Job Description
MTSI is seeking a Mission Engineering / Operational Analysis (ME/OA) SME to serve as a senior technical and operational advisor, often an embedded liaison with key DoD stakeholders, including the Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, Service Components, and Intelligence Community organizations.

This role ensures mission engineering activities are grounded in authoritative operational context, assumptions and inputs reflect real-world mission conditions, and analytic outputs maintain mission alignment. The ME/OA SME acts as a critical connective interface between operational communities and engineering teams, accelerating mission understanding and improving the rigor and credibility of all Mission Engineering (ME) activities.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a Mission Engineering and Operational Analysis subject matter expert directly supporting Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, Military Services, Intelligence Community partners, and analytic institutions.
  • Leverage operational experience and established relationships within warfighter and planning organizations to accelerate study initiation, validate mission constructs, and ensure analytic credibility.
  • Coordinate the collection of authoritative operational, intelligence, threat, and planning data needed to build mission context, scenarios, and analytic artifacts.
  • Facilitate alignment between mission owners and engineering teams, ensuring assumptions, constraints, and planned analyses match real-world mission execution.
  • Support validation of architectures, mission threads, and modeling assumptions through continuous engagement with stakeholders and subject-matter authorities.
  • Provide operational insight to improve the fidelity of mission engineering products, including mission characterization, MET/MT development, and M&S design.
  • Maintain documentation of stakeholder engagements, data lineage, analytic assumptions, and coordination workflows to support repeatable, transparent ME practices.


Experience Requirements:
  • 15 years of experience in military operations, operational planning, intelligence support, mission engineering, or operational analysis within DoD organizations.
  • 7 yearsof direct experience working with Joint Staff, CCMDs, Service component staff, or IC organizations in mission planning, capability development, or operational analysis roles.
  • 3 years supporting mission engineering, concept development, mission thread creation, scenario development, mission characterization, or constructive analysis efforts.
  • Demonstrated experience collecting, validating, and synthesizing authoritative operational and threat data from warfighter and intelligence organizations.
  • Working knowledge of Joint operational constructs, planning processes, and multi-domain mission execution.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex operational issues to engineering teams and represent technical findings to operational decision-makers.


Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Research, Engineering, National Security Studies, Intelligence Studies, or related technical discipline; OR
  • Certificate from advanced Professional Military Education (PME) relevant to Military Training and/or Military Planning.


Clearance:
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • Experience with enhanced security efforts highly desired.
