  • Interface frequently with program offices, government/military organizations, and contractors.

Full Job Description
Missile Flight Test Engineer to support the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command. This position is located in Huntsville, AL.

Job Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Provide technical assistance and program execution support to the USASMDC Test Directorate Targets and Test Resources Branch related to ballistic missile targets engineering, development, system testing, mission planning, and live-fire flight test mission operations.
  • Provide systems and general engineering support, independent technical assistance and assessment, and planning and coordination through the lifecycle of USASMDC target programs in direct support to Government program managers and engineers.
  • Assist in the determination and tracking of technical and programmatic requirements, risk and opportunity identification and management, design review participation and evaluation, verification of prime contractor performance, in-factory observation of target integration and test activities, and on-range participation in flight test execution and evaluation, to include target missile integration and staffing operations console during rehearsals and hot counts.
  • Assist in the production and review of technical, planning and mission execution documentation; participation in (and possible leadership of) working groups and issue-focused integrated product and tiger teams; generation and presentation of briefing materials for leadership technical awareness and decision-making; and frequent interface with program office and other government/military organization and contractor personnel.

Required Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Eight (8) or more years of flight test, defense system, and/or aerospace engineering experience.
  • Experience in DoD/DoW systems engineering, system integration and test operations.
  • Working understanding of ballistic missile target subsystems (boosters; guidance, navigation and control; flight termination; payload and payload deployment systems; instrumentation and telemetry).
  • Experience working at/with Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) sites, e.g., White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF).
  • Familiarity with MRTFB test documentation and processes, incl. Range Commander's Council (RCC) standards, Universal Documentation System (UDS) and range safety data package coordination, development and submittal.
  • Exceptional written, oral, and presentation skills, with a proven ability to brief mid-to-upper-level government personnel, to engage effectively in technical interchange with other program personnel and to compose and review engineering and technical documentation.
  • Self-starter with a high degree of technical acumen.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and have a DoW security clearance.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time, both CONUS and OCONUS.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated on-range missile system test operations experience, including on-console mission execution experience.
  • Experience developing and implementing test execution documentation (test constraints, mission go-no go, countdown documentation, UDS).
  • Comprehensive subject matter expertise of missile target subsystems and missile defense mission operations.
  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related scientific discipline.
