What can you expect?

As a Mining Engineer III, you will work in Anchorage, AK and be responsible for developing, synthesizing, reviewing, and documenting data relating to mechanical design, piping and process design as related to mining operations to directly support the Donlin Gold project. Task focus areas are related, but not limited, drafting, reviewing, and finalizing pre-FEED and FEED design documents for mining facilities, pipelines, and operations infrastructure. This position also includes providing field support as needed, which may include field site supervision. In addition, the Mining Engineer will utilize their knowledge and experience with mining operations to support field efforts and document preparation and/or review. This role will also be instrumental in supporting the Program Manager in seeking out opportunities to expand and grow this line of business.

How will you do it?

  • Conduct design review of the key engineering documents created by the four prime EPCM providers supporting Donlin Gold.
  • Work with technicians and other technical staff in data collection, site inspection/investigation, and evaluation of data collected in support of project objectives.
  • Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation.
  • Review and document the processes necessary to obtain, develop and/or update design documents, plans, reports, licenses, and other requirements necessary to achieve project objectives.
  • Review and provide documentation of mechanical technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements.
  • Prepare charts or graphs from data samples, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data.
  • Participate and lead in creating an effective team dynamic.
  • Lead project planning and RFP responses.
  • Serve as Deputy PM for specific projects & assist with Client requests.
  • Lead operations associated with key team deliverables.
  • Lead a proactive safety culture.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Managing the workflow of employees, creating team schedules and delegating tasks.
  • Assessing the work performance of employees and identifying areas that need improvement.
  • Ensuring that business goals, deadlines and performance standards are met.
  • Training and onboarding new hires to make sure they understand their roles.
  • Setting goals for workers and making sure they comply with the company27s plans and vision.
  • Reporting performance records and evaluations to HR and senior management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Strong knowledge of the practical application of mechanical, civil, electrical, mining, or process engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various engineering applications.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to use analytical skills alongside scientific rules and methods to solve problems and apply logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Basic computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs.
  • Effective oral and technical written communication skills to effectively and clearly communicate complex information to others as well as to present information in front of a group.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and confidentially process and maintain data with accuracy with directions and mentorship
  • Ability to effectively lead projects and work with multi-disciplined teams.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor27s Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or Structural Engineering or other engineering discipline.
  • Five to fifteen years of experience working on natural resource, mining, and process operations projects.
  • A broad understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Valid state driver27s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company27s Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass drug and background screening.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PE in Alaska preferred; PE in other states (or ability to obtain license in these states) a plus.
  • 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations certificate preferred.
  • Familiar with federal and state regulations relating to stormwater, wastewater, air quality/emissions, oil storage, and waste in PE-licensed state(s). Familiarity with federal and state regulations relating to environmental restoration projects in same state(s) a plus.
  • Experience in federal government projects is highly desired.
  • ArcGIS experience preferred.
  • Experience with Health and Safety functions a plus.
