Purpose & Scope of The Position:

The Mill Quality Assurance and Compliance Engineer supports copper mine and mill operations by providing accurate, timely analytical data and technical laboratory support. This role is responsible for QA/QC reporting, analytical method development, preparation and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs), data review and interpretation, and support of laboratory systems and projects. The position works closely with operations, metallurgy, and assay laboratory teams to ensure reliable analytical performance, sound quality practices, and safe laboratory operations.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and issue QA/QC reports and monitor laboratory quality indicators, including standards, blanks, duplicates, and control data.
  • Develop, validate, optimize, and document analytical methods for wet chemistry and instrumental analysis in support of mine, mill, and assay laboratory needs.
  • Write, revise, and maintain laboratory SOPs and manage the laboratory SOP system to ensure current, controlled, and accessible procedures.
  • Create, prepare, qualify, and maintain analytical standards, reagents, and reference materials used in routine and special testing.
  • Review analytical data for accuracy, precision, completeness, and compliance with established quality requirements.
  • Interpret and communicate results from wet chemistry and instrumental analyses to support operational, metallurgical, and quality decisions.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, calibrate, and support maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records in LIMS and other laboratory data systems and support data integrity and traceability.
  • Use statistical tools to trend performance, investigate out-of-control conditions, and support continuous improvement.
  • Support mill reagent tracking, assay laboratory chemical inventory, and laboratory project work as needed.
  • Work safely and in compliance with site, environmental, and laboratory safety requirements
  • Support mill reagent monitoring and related laboratory coordination activities.
  • Maintain assay lab chemical inventory and assist with ordering, stocking, and safe storage of chemicals and consumables.
  • Provide project support, special testing, and technical assistance as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support the success of Robinson Nevada Mining Company and KGHM.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical or Process Engineering, or a closely related chemical or engineer science discipline.
  • Experience:
    • Strong knowledge of analytical chemistry principles, QA/QC practices, and laboratory documentation requirements.
    • Experience reviewing analytical data, identifying anomalies, and interpreting results from both wet chemistry and instrumental methods.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
    • Working knowledge of statistics as applied to laboratory data evaluation, trending, and quality control.
    • Ability to write clear technical procedures, maintain controlled documents, and communicate findings effectively.
  • Licenses: Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience:
    • Experience working in a mine site, concentrator, assay lab, or metallurgical laboratory environment.
    • Hands-on experience supporting production laboratories with fast turnaround analytical requirements.
    • Familiarity with copper process streams, assay methods, and metallurgical sample types.
    • Experience supporting cross-functional technical projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Technical Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong familiarity with analytical instrumentation and laboratory systems, including atomic absorption (AA) systems and diluters, ICP instrumentation, titrators, LECO analyzers, analytical balances, fluoride meters, and related sample preparation and analytical equipment.
  • Experience with laboratory software, data review tools, and LIMS platforms is highly desirable.

  • Travel as needed.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to meet the required physical demands, exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
