Job Description Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Systems & Digital Integration Engineer to help build the digital backbone of an Industry 4.0 aerospace manufacturing facility. With new equipment, processes, and technologies coming online, we're building an industry-leading facility, and are searching for a key integration engineer to help design and enable this smart manufacturing system. This role will define how digital models, data architecture, and connected systems are designed and applied to simulate, predict, and optimize real-world operations.
This individual will collaborate closely with Automation & Controls engineers and site leadership to design and implement the infrastructure required for a fully connected smart factory. The role is central to enabling real-time visibility, enhanced operational control, and data-driven decision-making across the facility. The ideal candidate brings strong experience with connected digital systems, industrial automation, and communication protocols, along with a practical, solutions-oriented approach to integrating complex technologies into high-performing operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesData Architecture & Integration- Design and implement data pipelines connecting PLCs, SCADA, MES, ERP, and IIoT systems
- Define data structures, tagging strategies, and governance standards
- Define how machine data translates into operational metrics (OEE, downtime, yield)
- Ensure scalable and reliable data flow across systems
- Collaboration and discovery of existing data platforms and coordination for enterprise-wide interoperability
Advanced Analytics & Machine Learning- Apply statistical and machine learning techniques (e.g., regression models, random forest, neural networks) to improve system performance and predictive capabilities
- Develop models for predictive maintenance, throughput optimization, and anomaly detection
- Combine physics-based simulation with data-driven methods to improve digital twin accuracy
Optimization & Decision Support- Enable decision-making through dashboards, visualization tools, and simulation outputs
- Perform scenario analysis, capacity modeling, and system optimization
- Collaborate with teams to optimize manufacturing production and future automation
- Analyze workflows, material flow, and system constraints
- Identify bottlenecks and improvement opportunities using data and on-the-floor observations
- Support layout design, capacity planning, and process optimization
System Integration & Validation- Ensure alignment between physical manufacturing processes and digital systems (digital twins, data models, automation platforms)
- Validate model accuracy and system performance against real-world operations
- Identify and resolve gaps between expected and actual system behavior
Simulation & Digital Twin Development- Develop and maintain high-fidelity digital models of manufacturing systems, including machining and material flow
- Continuously refine models using real-time and historical production data
- Planning out future automation and digital twin connectivity as part of the continuous improvement efforts
Experience & Education Required Qualifications:- 7-10+ years of experience in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Industrial automation and controls
- Strong experience with data-driven improvement initiatives or digital manufacturing tools
- Development of data collection and system integration for a manufacturing facility
- Experience with integrating PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar)
Preferred Qualifications:- Familiarity with SCADA, MES, and IIoT systems
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, Profinet)
- Understanding and experience with Digital Twins such as (Omniverse, Siemens Digital Twin, Ansys Twin Builder, GE Digital, Microsoft Azure Digital Twins)
- Experience launching new facilities, major capital expenditure projects, or expansions
- Familiarity with aerospace, automotive, medical or other highly regulated manufacturing fields
Education: - Bachelor's in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Industrial automation and controls or other related Engineering disciplines
