Full Job Description
GLY is seeking an MEP Specialist who provides leadership and technical expertise for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEPF) systems throughout the project lifecycle. This role partners closely with project teams, design consultants, trade partners, and field leadership to ensure projects are properly planned, coordinated, and executed. The MEP Specialist leverages industry experience to manage MEPF scopes, lead constructability reviews, resolve complex coordination challenges, and create clear, actionable plans that support successful field execution.

In addition to project responsibilities, the MEP Specialist serves as a mentor and technical resource, sharing knowledge and supporting the professional growth of Project Engineers and other team members while promoting GLY's culture, values, and commitment to excellence.

Primary Responsibilites
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, consultants, and GLY team members.
  • Serve as a team leader who can effectively navigate project challenges through strong communication, leadership, and a positive attitude.
  • Ensure GLY workflows and processes are consistently followed, delivering a reliable and high-quality experience to clients, design teams, and trade partners.
  • Monitor quality of work in the field through GLY's QA/QC program.
  • Assist project staff in establishing construction plans, temporary services layouts, and temporary equipment procurement.
  • Collaborate with field leaders and mentor Project Engineers in construction management best practices.
  • Coordinate scope requirements among all applicable trades and review team efforts for consistency and completeness.
  • Review architectural and engineering specifications, drawings, and related documents to ensure technical and code compliance.
  • Participate in onboarding and mentoring new hires in GLY procedures, expectations, and values.
    Develop an understanding of contracts, prime contracts, and subcontracts while supporting risk mitigation efforts.
  • Participate in preconstruction activities including RFP development, bid packaging, buyout, procurement planning, and schedule analysis.
  • Facilitate productive meetings with GLY teams, clients, consultants, and trade partners to drive issues to resolution.
  • Lead procurement log management and support procurement scheduling efforts in partnership with project leadership.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and project teams to ensure materials and equipment are delivered accurately and on time.
  • Maintain construction issue tracking processes and ensure timely management of RFIs, submittals, and related workflows.
  • Oversee MEP coordination schedules and manage partners responsible for clash detection and coordination efforts.
  • Support management of contracts, purchase orders, change orders, and project cost tracking.
  • Monitor permit acquisition and tracking throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support all aspects of project closeout, including commissioning, operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, spare parts inventories, and deficiency resolution.


Preconstruction
  • Support design teams in developing solutions that align with project budget and schedule requirements.
  • Lead constructability review meetings and track design issues through PlanGrid or other approved GLY collaboration platforms.
  • Participate in BIM 360 or other project collaboration systems utilized by the project team.
  • Drive early coordination and resolution of design details impacting MEP systems.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and consultants during design development of MEP systems, curtain wall systems, and building envelope components.
  • Collaborate proactively with owners, architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Develop procurement logs for MEP scopes and identify long-lead procurement requirements.
  • Help ensure timely design team responses necessary to support procurement, schedule, and field operations.


Course of Construction
  • Anticipate schedule requirements and material delivery needs for MEP scopes.
  • Maintain coordinated submittal and delivery schedules aligned with the project schedule.
  • Manage change orders, PCOs, RFIs, and submittals for assigned MEP scopes in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Support pricing and evaluation of MEP-related change orders.
  • Effectively administer assigned subcontractors and trade partners.
  • Apply creative and effective problem-solving techniques to address project challenges.
  • Consolidate design information and communicate critical details to field personnel.
  • Review shop drawings for compliance with contract documents and coordination with other building systems.
  • Maintain submittal registers and tracking systems within CMiC and other project management platforms.
  • Support, track, and mentor project teams on MEP coordination and execution best practices.


Technical & Support Skills

What It Takes:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 6-8 years of progressively responsible experience in commercial construction, with significant experience managing MEP systems coordination, constructability reviews, procurement, QA/QC, and project execution.
  • Experience working for a general contractor, major mechanical/electrical contractor, or engineering firm supporting commercial construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading MEP coordination efforts, managing subcontractors, facilitating coordination meetings, and mentoring Project Engineers.
  • Experience with BIM/VDC coordination, commissioning, and project closeout activities preferred.
