Position Description: The Mental Health Lead, for the purposes of this contract, is defined as a Licensed Psychologist, Doctoral level (Ph.D. or Psy.D), with a minimum of 3 years of experience relevant to completing VA disability examinations and psychological testing. The Mental Health Lead is the SME in their specialty and responsible for providing leadership, guidance, oversight, and quality assurance to front line Examiners who assist with the provision of Contract Mental Health examinations.

This position is located in our Fairfax, VA or Lafayette, LA office; however, a hybrid working model is acceptable.
Your future duties and responsibilities: 1. Expanded Clinical Governance & Quality Oversight
Oversee continuous updates to Mental Health DBQs as VA modifies diagnostic or documentation requirements.
Implement more robust performance monitoring, including new quality metrics, to ensure exam accuracy and compliance as VA standards evolve.
Introduce improved workload balancing practices for examiners to reduce burnout and optimize quality, reflecting organizational principles of workload management and equitable task distribution.
2. Provider Development, Training & Talent Pipeline Management
Build structured mentorship and training pathways for new mental health examiners, aligning with the organization's emphasis on skills development, growth, and staff readiness.
Identify high potential team members, prepare individualized learning plans, and guide them toward advanced VA specific competencies (e.g., MST, PTSD, MDD, anxiety modalities).
Collaborate with leadership to maintain a strong pipeline of qualified candidates as program volume grows, taking cues from broader talent alignment strategies.
3. Policies, Compliance & Security Alignment
Ensure clinicians adhere to updated VA requirements and internal policy changes-particularly around documentation accuracy, reporting of risks, and proper handling of sensitive mental health information.
Coordinate with security personnel to reinforce SEAD 3 related reporting obligations and encourage healthy, stigma free mental health care behaviors among examiners.
4. Program Integration & Cross Functional Leadership
Partner with Program Management, QA Leadership, and IT teams to ensure the mental health portion of MDE operations evolves alongside technology, system upgrades, and changes in VA interoperability requirements.
Participate in enterprise wide planning sessions to align mental health processes with organizational goals, mirroring how SMEs support program level decisions.
5. Operational Scalability & Network Expansion
Lead mental health workforce
Required qualifications to be successful in this role: Doctoral degree in Psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D).
Examiners performing mental health evaluations must be appropriately trained and credentialed clinicians; doctoral level psychologists are the accepted standard for mental health DBQs in the VA MDE program.
Full, current, unrestricted license as a Psychologist in a U.S. state or territory.
The PWS indicates that all examiners must be fully licensed and credentialed according to VA requirements.
Must remain in good standing, with no restrictions, revocations, or disciplinary actions.
Desired qualifications/non essential skills required:
Experience in clinical quality management or oversight roles.
Experience developing or delivering clinician training.
MST (Military Sexual Trauma) experience
Depression, PTSD and Anxiety
Familiarity with VA adjudication process (M21 1), DBQ structures, and common error patterns that cause rework.
Experience working with vulnerable veteran populations (combat trauma, MST survivors).

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $70,800.00 $172,400.00.
