The RoleKaroo is transforming cardiovascular care by helping cardiology practices succeed in value-based care. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a physician leader who can bridge clinical excellence, care delivery, and provider partnership.
The Medical Director will oversee Karoo's clinical care team and ensure we consistently deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to our patients. They will also serve as a trusted clinical partner to our provider organizations, help strengthen our care model, and support the growth of new payer and provider relationships.
This is a hands-on medical leadership role for a cardiologist who understands both the clinical realities of cardiovascular care and the operational demands of value-based care.
What You'll DoLead Clinical Care Delivery- Provide clinical leadership and oversight for Karoo's care delivery team.
- Establish clear expectations for clinical quality, patient safety, and performance.
- Support clinician development, coaching, and accountability.
- Ensure care is delivered consistently, compassionately, and in alignment with Karoo's clinical model.
- Serve as the escalation point for complex clinical questions and patient care concerns.
Serve as the Clinical Leader for Provider Partnerships- Build trusted relationships with physician leaders, practice administrators, and care teams across Karoo's provider partners.
- Act as a primary clinical liaison between Karoo and partner organizations.
- Help align Karoo's care delivery model with the needs and priorities of each provider partner.
- Participate in partner meetings, clinical reviews, and performance discussions.
- Address clinical concerns and help resolve issues that affect provider trust or patient care.
- Represent Karoo in physician advisory groups and other clinical forums.
Partner with Clinical Operations- Work closely with the Clinical Operations team to translate clinical needs into scalable workflows, tools, and protocols.
- Provide physician input into care pathways, clinical decision support, documentation standards, and quality programs.
- Help evaluate whether operational processes are practical, clinically sound, and effective for the care team.
- Partner on the implementation and adoption of new clinical programs and operating processes.
Oversee Clinical Quality- Maintain accountability for the quality and clinical integrity of Karoo's care delivery.
- Review clinical performance, outcomes, and quality metrics.
- Identify areas for improvement and partner with Clinical Operations to implement changes.
- Ensure clinical programs reflect current cardiology standards and evidence-based practice.
- Support clinical governance, documentation standards, and appropriate escalation pathways.
- Help maintain compliance with applicable clinical, regulatory, and licensure requirements.
Advance Cardiovascular Value-Based Care- Serve as an internal and external expert on cardiovascular value-based care.
- Help shape Karoo's care model to improve patient outcomes, provider experience, and total cost of care.
- Review population-level clinical and financial performance data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Partner with Product, Analytics, Market Operations, and Clinical Operations to develop and refine clinical programs.
- Help ensure Karoo's programs are both clinically meaningful and operationally scalable.
- Support the development of new interventions for high-risk cardiovascular populations.
Support Business Development and Growth- Participate in prospective provider and payer conversations as Karoo's physician representative.
- Clearly articulate Karoo's clinical model, care delivery approach, and value proposition.
- Build credibility with clinical and executive stakeholders during sales, diligence, implementation, and expansion discussions.
- Provide clinical input into proposals, partnership models, and new market opportunities.
- Support the launch and expansion of new provider and payer relationships.
- Represent Karoo at conferences, customer meetings, and industry events as appropriate.
What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications- MD or DO with board certification in Cardiology.
- Active, unrestricted medical license.
- Significant clinical practice experience in cardiology.
- Experience leading clinicians or multidisciplinary care teams.
- Demonstrated understanding of value-based care, population health, accountable care, or risk-bearing payment models.
- Experience working with cardiology practices, physician groups, health systems, or payer partners.
- Strong clinical judgment and a practical, hands-on leadership style.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust with physicians, clinicians, executives, and cross-functional teams.
- Experience working in a startup, digital health company, or other high-growth healthcare environment.
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience caring for Medicare or Medicare Advantage populations.
- Experience with care management, transitions of care, remote patient management, or chronic disease programs.
- Experience supporting business development, provider engagement, or strategic partnerships.
- Experience using clinical, quality, and cost data to improve performance.
- Familiarity with multi-state clinical operations and physician licensure requirements.
