Job Description
Role:
The Engineering Supervisor provides technical and managerial leadership to a team of various technical roles. Utilizes available resources to achieve the Product Sustaining Engineering Manager's goals regarding supporting production through dispositioning of deviations, completion of change requests, and VAVE initiatives.
Responsibilities
Main Job Duties:
• Lead the product support engineering team for all production sites, domestic and international
• Supervise the daily activities of the team and manage its deliverables
• Assign priorities and workload for the team of engineers, designers, and drafters to meet team objectives
• Conduct performance assessments and goal setting with the team
• Maintain budgeted headcount through collaboration with HR
• Create a productive and collaborative working environment for the team
• Utilize and continuously improve the engineering failure analysis process
• Identify and coordinate the implementation of new policies, procedures, or processes
• Ensure that documentation conforms to company standards
• Use a systematic, analytically based approach to troubleshooting, concepting, designing, and testing
• Manage multiple projects utilizing Starline's project management process
• Provide project management support to the team's technical leads as they manage their projects
• Instruct the work of external contract engineering resources
• Determine system reliability and design or select components to achieve the required product performance
• Define and implement rigorous verification and validation test plans
• Lead DFMEAs, design reviews, and project status meetings
• Determine system reliability and select components to achieve the required product performance
• Supervise the creation of technical documentation, such as drawings, operations and maintenance manuals, and installation instructions, in support of new product introductions
• Partner with Production, Quality, and Purchasing staff to ensure product manufacturability
• Collaborate with certification laboratories such as UL, Intertek (ETL), and various other international agencies
• Create mentoring relationships with other engineers
• Direct and assist with testing, verifying product performance, system integration, and compliance with applicable standards.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
• Project Management Professional Certification (preferred)
• Software tools: Microsoft 365, Smartsheet, Autodesk Inventor
• Familiarity with low voltage power distribution equipment
• Exceptional organizational, time management, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Personal Qualities/Behaviors:
• The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to manufacturing areas where, in certain areas, the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection is required.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
Qualifications
Education:
• BS in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in product development and production support
• Two years of experience with direct supervision or leading teams
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required up to 10% of the time.
