Full Job Description
About the role

The Enphase Power Systems Innovation team in the Office of the CTO is responsible for defining, prototyping, and supporting Enphase's Solid State Transformer (SST) products and next-generation power conversion platforms. The team is an integrated, multi-disciplinary group that moves fast, operates with high ownership, and delivers hardware from concept through field validation.

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Mechanical Engineering to lead and scale our mechanical engineering function. You are a technically strong Mechanical Engineer with a proven track record in product design, a passion for solving complex engineering challenges at pace, and demonstrated experience leading and developing engineering teams. You are technically proficient, a people leader, and capable of managing the scheduling and resourcing of a complex, multi-workstream hardware program.

What you will do
  • Meet quarterly project progress targets, with goals that align with program milestones set by executive leadership.
  • Lead professional development of your team - conduct performance reviews, support career growth, represent your team to the annual Performance Focal Group and Promotion Review Board.
  • Own the mechanical architecture for SST racks, high-power enclosures, structural assemblies, power module packaging, busbar integration, and wiring harness routing. Drive designs from concept through detailed drawings, DFM review, and production release.
  • Lead design options and reviews; drive optimization of electromechanical assemblies including EMI/EMC, thermal requirements, and electrical insulation coordination
  • Apply DFM/DFA principles across the full product lifecycle, including supplier selection, process qualification, and tolerance analysis.
  • Engage cross-functionally with power electronics, electrical hardware, firmware, systems, manufacturing, procurement, and quality teams to drive full-scope hardware delivery.
  • Identify and resolve design requirement conflicts; ensure designs meet compliance requirements under UL, IEC, NEMA, and other applicable standards.
  • Build and grow the mechanical engineering team - recruit, onboard, and develop top-tier mechanical engineers; establish team processes and a culture of engineering excellence and accountability.
  • Present program status, technical risks, and design decisions clearly to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

Who you are and what you bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline; Master's degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in mechanical product design and development, with a strong track record across the full product development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing mechanical engineering teams of 4 or more engineers, including performance management and career development.
  • Significant experience in the mechanical design and integration of electrical support equipment for power electronics, power conversion, or analogous high-power electrical products - including busbars, wire harnesses, electronic board packaging, and connectors.
  • Demonstrable expertise in design and manufacturing processes: injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, and stamping/die casting.
  • High proficiency with an enterprise CAD package - SolidWorks strongly preferred, ideally in a PDM/EPDM-managed environment.
  • Experience with DFM/DFA principles and close collaboration with contract manufacturers and fabrication vendors.
  • Experience with both investigative and verification testing - including writing test plans, executing tests, and authoring technical reports.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills - able to represent mechanical engineering clearly to electrical, firmware, systems, and executive stakeholders.
  • Independent problem-solver who thrives in ambiguity and can navigate early-stage product development where requirements are still being written.

Additional desired skills
  • Experience with medium-voltage power electronics packaging - creepage, clearance, and dielectric considerations for >1 kV environments.
  • Experience with structural FEA for enclosure-level analysis: vibration, fatigue, seismic, and transportation loading.
  • Exposure to Arena, Windchill, SolidWorks EPDM, or equivalent PLM/PDM systems.

Travel

Approximately 10-20% travel required to support prototype build events, supplier qualification visits, and product demonstrations. Domestic and occasional international travel.

Work location

Full-time onsite position based in Austin, TX.

The base pay range for this position is $130,000 to $183,000. This salary range may be modified in the future. The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, education or training, work location, and market conditions.
