The Opportunity

Black & Veatch is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to support in the design of mechnical systems in water treatment and wastewater projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Work collaboratively with various design engineering execution teams across the US and abroad
  • Perform Mechanical System design for water/wastewater projects.
  • Perform engineering calculations to develop equipment and system performance parameters for the purpose of sizing equipment.
  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers to select the most technically acceptable design solutions.
  • Follow company and industry design practices in development of designs.
  • Develop engineering work products including Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs), Mechanical arrangement drawings, and Equipment, Piping, and Valve specifications.
  • Review manufacturer's or contractor's submittals, data, reports, etc., for conformance with B&V criteria.


The Team

The Mechanical Engineering Department is a global team that delivers high quality, on time design and services projects in the areas of Power, Gas, Fuels & Chemicals, Water and Waste Water, Data Centers, and Mining including everything Mechanically related to Process and Power (from Conventional, Combined Heat and Power, Hydro, Hydrogen, Nuclear, Solar/Renewable, LNG, Ammonia, Fertilizer) projects to specialized Air Quality Control, HVAC, Fire Protection, Piping, Thermal and Renewable performance estimating and testing.

The Water/Wastewater Treatment team is a part of our greater BV Operations department. BV's Treatment team provides comprehensive drinking water, wastewater, industrial water, recycled water, and residuals and odor control solutions. With agnostic and industry-leading technical expertise, we transform our clients' treatment infrastructure to meet their current and future needs. From concept to reality, our clients trust us to plan, design, construct, commission and optimize their treatment infrastructure, facilities, and operations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in most of following areas:
  • Developing detailed project drawings and technical specifications
  • Equipment and systems used in water and wastewater treatment facilities including:
    • Pumping systems, blowers, aeration control valves, compressed air systems for pneumatic actuators, large bubble mixing, anaerobic digestion, heating water boilers, heat exchangers, and steel piping systems.
  • Material selection and sizing of piping systems and equipment
  • Hydraulic principles related to water/wastewater facility design


Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing or equivalent experience in engineering work.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and supports where necessary.

Work Environment and Schedule

  • This position would require working in a typical office environment. The position may entail prolonged periods of sitting and computer use, and the professional would ideally be able to maintain focus and attention to detail throughout the workday. The position may also be require physical tasks during site visits, including crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods of time.
  • Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
