Overview

Plans, schedules, and leads engineering project assignments requiring independent judgement in the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of various engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Ensures the value of engineering solutions for products through creative design and by applying modern design solutions, techniques, approaches, methods, and technology, meeting objectives and schedules by independent planning; and by participating in determining technical objectives. 
  • Ensures the value of engineering solutions by creating sketches, computer-aided designs (CAD) models, mockups, and prototypes; facilitating the evaluation of products by management, technical groups, manufacturing, marketing, and the customer; and conducting advanced design analysis and testing. 
  • Ensures proper documentation and data files by creating and maintaining up-to-date project records. 
  • Ensures efficient and effective design activity by representing the department on standard engineering questions; directing the work of assigned designers, engineers, and technicians; providing engineering consulting advice to engineers and designers; and by working with development and technical support groups on projects. 
  • Ensures the accomplishment of team objectives through effective communication and teamwork; and by providing advanced technical assistance as needed. 
  • Contributes to the value of product designs by studying competitive product and customer’s practices, identifying customer needs, and establishing new product definition and design goals. 
  • Contributes to the advancement of product designs and awareness of recent innovations by continuing education, reading, participating in engineering and industry standards setting organizations, and by developing and maintaining a professional network outside the company. 
  • Contributes to the accomplishment of team objectives through effective communication and teamwork. 
  • Provides for an environment of self-sustaining, continuous improvement consistent with corporate objectives by driving improvements in throughput times and eliminating waste in a manner that is measurable and provides value to the product and/or service that is delivered. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively in oral, written, and illustration form. 
  • Working project management skills and the ability to manage small technical projects effectively. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment. 
  • Ability to represent the department and to direct the work of engineers and designers and to provide consulting advice to designers and engineers. 
  • Demonstrates ability to provide imaginative, thorough, and practical engineering solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. 
  • In-depth knowledge in the technical, theoretical, and practical aspects of a wide range of engineering work. 


Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience. 
  • 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience of increasing responsibility and difficulty of assignments. 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 35 pounds with or without assistance on a routine basis. Must have manual hand dexterity to grasp, operate tools and equipment repetitively. Able to walk, stand, sit, bend, reach, and occasionally kneel, climb steps, and twist throughout an entire shift. Some areas may be exposed to chemicals, noise, vibration and /or dust, and require the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); such as, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, etc.
