South Dakota State University (SDState) - Facilities & Services is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support the operation, maintenance, and repair of the Animal Resource Wing (ARW) and other campus buildings. In this role, you'll manage facility maintenance, oversee repairs and alterations, and contribute to mechanical project planning and design across campus. This position will help ensure safe, reliable facilities that support our teaching and research mission.

This position is located in Brookings, SD and is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:This position is responsible for planning, designing, and managing Mechanical Engineering projects within the Animal Resource Wing (ARW) and throughout the campus. This includes contributing to and assisting with the oversight of maintenance, alteration, and repair services for campus buildings and utility systems. The goal is to meet the needs of campus clients and to support the institution's teaching and research programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Earned Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Understanding of mechanical systems such as HVAC, plumbing, building automation, or utilities.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools).
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with contractors, maintenance staff, and campus stakeholders.
• Commitment to safety and compliance.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
• Valid driver's license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering
• At least one year of relevant engineering experience
• Professional Engineering license
• Experience in facility maintenance, construction, or project management
