Overview The Mechanical Professional Engineer II (PE II) independently applies advanced engineering techniques to design and coordinate mechanical systems for energy and infrastructure projects across hospital and college campuses. This role leads portions of projects, developing code-compliant, constructible designs for HVAC, hydronic, and thermal plant systems while solving complex technical challenges. The PE II collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to integrate designs with existing facilities, supports permitting and procurement, and addresses field conditions. Responsibilities include producing accurate calculations and documentation and delivering systems that meet performance, reliability, and energy efficiency objectives consistent with design-build delivery model.
Responsibilities - Independently applies advanced engineering techniques to design and coordinate mechanical systems for energy and infrastructure projects.
- Leads portions of projects, developing code-compliant, constructible designs for HVAC, hydronic, and thermal plant systems while solving complex technical challenges.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to integrate designs with existing facilities, supports permitting and procurement, and addresses field conditions.
- Produces accurate calculations and documentation, ensuring systems meet performance, reliability, and energy efficiency objectives.
- Signs and seals engineering documents, ensuring all designs are compliant and of high quality.
- Supports the development of new solutions and improves existing systems for better performance and energy savings.
- Prepares detailed system configurations and control schemes with an emphasis on long-term energy savings.
- Conducts field investigations, supports site visits, and coordinates a 3D laser scanning effort.
- Interfaces directly with clients on technical matters and may act as task lead or discipline lead on projects.
- Resolves complex technical issues independently with a high degree of latitude.
- Provides informal mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
- Coordinates with internal disciplines and supports construction-phase activities.
- Performs work that may include traveling 10-25% of the time to various job sites.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in architectural engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of design experience in mechanical systems.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License.
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical systems and design practices.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary deliverables.
- Strong communication and technical writing skills.
